Hi

In my utorrent client, the download maxes out my connection in the 'Speed' tab, but the individual download isn't as quick.

I normally only have one active download. The speed tab shows 21kb/s average, but the (only) download is at 12-14kb/s. None of the other torrents are downloading. Capping the upload speed doesn't help. I can understand a gap of 1-1.5kb/s but not this much.

This issue has cropped up only in the last week. Restarting the machine helps slightly, but after some time it's back to the ghost download which sucks up a third of my connection speed.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Sangram

is ur utorrent infected by trojan? my utorrent was infected by a trojan but avast deleted it immediately - it was around 750kb but utorrent is around 600kb i think.

take a backup of ur settings ..delete the settings.dat file in ur application data folder and restart the client..worked for me once..

C:\Documents and Settings\......\Application Data\uTorrent

Thanks for that tip. I'll try that.

I also notice the problem seems to correlate to the type of torrent and the number of hashfails. That gives me a slight cue as to the origin of the problem, but I really can't do too much about it.

overloaded torrent or poisoned torrent or bad peers who send malformed data(look at the 'peers' tab and look out for many similar IP addressess and ban them using ipfilter) cause loads of hashfails..

Try to download Open Office torrent and see if you get full speed.. if you do, then connection is not your problem..

Yeah, I diagnosed the problem as bad peers too. The connection is really not the problem, with a good Linux or Open Office torrent I'm getting full speed in both the speed window and the torrent diagnostic.

Thanks for that.
