I recently changed my uTorrent port from 8080 to 1987 and even forwarded it on my BSNL modem but now whenever I try to access the web UI, I get invalid request message. What is causing this?:S

hmm..... Is it the same port in the following?

1. utorrent webui, do not select random port.

2. bsnl port forward

3. firewall settings

and i suppose you are using 2 systems?

Since I'm not doing this thing for the first time, I've done all the things u mentioned earlier itself. Thing is , I had to switch from port 8080 because I was getting forwarding errors 2 weeks ago even though every thing was done properly. I tried WebUI access from my place but it didn't work. I realized that it was because of the Java server running on the same port I wasn't able to access it but strange thing is that when I tried to access it from my computer center using my DynDNS name, it worked. Now after changing the port number, it is not accessible either locally(in LAN thru direct IP) or remotely(via DynDNS name) while the HFS server running on the port 1947 is running fine and is accessible too.

In the application data folder of utorrent there will be a file called settings.dat or something of that sorts.

must be C:\Documents and Settings\"you user name"\Application Data\utorrent

something like that.

Take a backup of it and delete the original file in that location. then try all the things you know. post back after that.

I just deleted the god damn thing, uninstalled it, rebooted, reinstalled it but still the same. If u want I can post screenshots but I don't think they'll b of any use as I have done everything I could think of and it still won't budge an inch.

Go to your uTorrent preferrences.

Go to Web UI section.

Make sure you've Alternate listening Port unchecked. (That is if you want your Torrents incoming port to use for WebUI, otherwise put your desired port number here)

In the textfield called Restrict Access to Following IPs.

Put your computers IP there.

Check now.

Did it, still the same. From my experience&knowledge of Networking I have come to a conclusion that the error is being caused by a separate service running on the system like Java server(although on a different port) which needs to be found out and corrective measures have to be taken. Jsut to be sure about this, I revert back to the 8080 port and see if the problem persists or not coz when I tried to access the WebUI from my laptop(Ubuntu) it never showed it giving some error I don't remember. What I do remember is that it was generated by the Java server running on port 8080. :@
