uTorrent woes

For the last two days there is something seriously wrong with my torrent connections. I don't know the problem but I will note down the symptoms.

1- I can't surf as well as use torrent downloading/uploading at the same time if Kaspersky is running. Firefox can't send even single bit. earlier there was no problem. If i shutdown kaspersky, there is no prob

2- Kaspersky or not, I connect to tracker(s) when I start uTorrent only to see all the trackers go offline within ten mins or so. The trackers in question are very popular (and also robust) which I know have not been taken down. I can still download stuff as I can connect to a lot leechers. Obviously speed is not that good.

3- In the last two days or so I have downloaded more than 700MB of data of which around 400MB has been discarded due to hash fail. It's a huge file I am downloading ;) but still the amount of hash fail is too much.

Strangest thing about hash fail is that the most habitual offender as far as bad data is concerned is IP 0.0.0.0

Now this is certainly beyond me. I am not that big a noob but if truth to be told i am not that good either. Specially in matters related to networking.

so if somebody can make some sense out of it please help.

Anyone with any sort of clue, please pitch in.

here is some essential info that may help you guys.

I use:

uTorrent 1.7.5

Kaspersky Internet Security 7

MTNL NU up to 2mbps with 256kbps upload with DSL 502T modem

Windows XP SP2

* I have patched TCP/IP with value set to 50

* Max half open connections in uTorrent have been set to 50

* Port is forwarded properly and uTorrent is allowed "any activity" in Kaspersky firewall settings.

Do torrents go offline and the download stops to "0" KBps....or torrents are still active? (I had amny instances where the tracker is offline and download works fine...inspite of the red color)....
when the torrent goes offline...did u try loggin in the site to confirm whether the site is facing some issues?

Lastly, what is the max conn. nos set in utorrent... i remeber setting it to 400 and i too faced similar issue.... u torrent used to stop and then after 10 mins used to start again and then stop again in 10 mins....used to happen throughout the night.... Result: i could download only 1 Gb compared to 4 GB which i generally download. The problem was due to the max conn....which used to cause the modem to crash....:) ...
took me 15 days to figure it out(by the time I had lost around 50Gb of data:( )

yea morgoth, re-check your kasparov settings in case they got reset to defaults or something.

also, did you change any other settings, install other software about 2 days ago that might have started these problems?

as said by vercetti...setting a very large "max global connections" does affect your speed as well as causing the router to freeze for few mins when utorrent is executed...lowering it did the job for me...now i only increase it wheneva i have too many multiple downloads...

@vercetti: max half-open connections is different from max global conn...its tweaked to 50 from 10 or so for high speed...imo it wont affect cause even i have it tweaked to 50 and i dont have any prob whatsoeva...:)

utorrent has been crashing very frequently for me recently, anyone else facing any such problem ? it just crashes in the middle of the night , and its completely random.

I even tried reinstalling but didnt make any diff.

Any other torrent clients that you guys can suggest ? Bitcomet is banned on a lot of sites, azureus is crap ..

^^^ uninstall utorrent...remove registry entries...delete this directory "c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\uTorrent" where "username" is your Windows username...reinstall and try...

btw azureus is not crap...its just that its java based n thus is a resource hogger...

This could be the prob... can you please elaborate

Could not really look into the matter till last night. Kaspersky was somehow reverted settings to default and it was causing the problem. Again gave access to uTorrent, specified port, and tweaked a few more firewall settings. It runs fine now. :)
As for hashfail/waste, i think the problem was because of one of my mistakes. Though still not too sure and only can be assured after I check RAM with Memtest. But I think hash fails were occurring because I changed trackers (all public) for this particular torrent too often. I got the list from Torrentz and I was checking various trackers for best speed.
last night I used the original trackers for the torrent and the amount of waste/hashfail came down significantly.
