Storage Solutions Vaio cant see data on DVDRW disc

Laptop: Sony vaio E-series vpceg18fg ; abt 10 months old laptop

Optical drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7710H

DVD RW disc are shown as empty discs, although there is media on it. Normal DVD movies play fine on laptop. I have 4 region resets to go.

Tried an ubuntu image burnt on dvdrw, it was read fineon laptop and installed fine.

How to go about reading the data like normal laptop ?

distro,. check if the disc is playing fine on other system, if yes the ODD is faulty. You can try cleaning the lens of the ODD, or even cleaning the disc

No!! Use a CD / DVD lens Cleaner, like this here.
