I bought a 50 pack of Verbatim DVD-R Bulk Packing from our TE dealer to burn some HD rips.

http://www.techenclave.com/dealers-paradise/verbatim-dvd-r-50-pack-bulk-168579.html

Today I decided to burn some of the disc, first thing I found out is that its manufactured by Moser Baer India Ltd. and media code MBI 01RG40.

Next after burning a disc, I ran a disc quality test using Nero Disc Speed. The results are absolutely shocking, nero shows Quality score of 0 and insane PI errors and failures.

First scan Verbatim DVD-R Bulk packing

I rescanned again to make sure the first scan was not a bogus.
Second scan Verbatim DVD-R Bulk packing

I burned a second disc to make sure, but same disappointing result.

It seems that either I have got a bad batch of disc or the bulk packing disc are worthless. I would want more members who bought these disc to post their disc quality scan results.

Holy mother of lord!! :O Those numbers are totally ridiculous!

Try using a different burner if possible.

i have ordered this disc and not yet received them . Guess what is the frist thing i am goin to do when i get the disc !!

SS,

Try dropping your scan speed to 5x instead of maximum and see whether it makes a difference to your PIF numbers. If not, try varying the write speed's and test out a few more discs. Maybe you got a bad disc but it would be unusual for the whole batch to be bad.

Your NEC 7240S is not as reliable a scanner (exagerates the PIE's) compared to a Liteon or BenQ, but the above hack will try to bring it slightly more in line with them.

Do a benchmark test on the dvd and see whether there are any speed drops in the plot, this is your best indicator whether the write was good or not.

^ see these are bulk dvds, i have sold a lot of them and they are just fine to run regular stuff. also they are coming from verbatim , they bear the inner ring of verbatim , they have the verbatim india sticker with a help line number to verfiy the same, people who have ordered the 600 pack will know the whole master packing as well. i have them and used them for some movies and they work fine. and they are a lot more cheaper mate. the price is inclusive of shipping as all know. or else one can buy these for 8 bucks if some can pick these from me. thats like almost 25% cheaper then regular verbatim media.

the verbs we get here write well only on about 8-12x speeds. go any higher and i see many errors and quality drops to less than 50%. it could be because of my dvd writer getting old too.

@op write a disc at 8x and scan it at 8x and put up the screen here. will give a better idea of the quality of the media.

These disc were burnt at 8x speed, I always burn at 8x.

I will burn one more disc at 8x, scan at 8x and post the results.

^ try updating the firmware of your dvd drive.

My current drive (sony dru-190a) refused to behave with moser baer dvd's. It wouldn't write them well, and would read them only randomly. It also wasn't reading my older cd's. I did a firmware update, and the problem largely went away. In between official firmware updates, I even tried a hacked one, which worked. But sony did finally release some new firmware, so I'm back to using the official version.

I haven't bought moser baers again, but I've ordered the same verbatim discs you have. I hope the problem doesn't crop up again. I'll have to wait a few days to find out.

Shakensoul...sorry about the silly suggestion about updating your firmware...these discs suck...they're thin and useless, they even look cheap.
I tried to burn 4 of them, and after getting successful burn messages, they aren't even being recognised by the drive.
I guess the cheapest back-up solution is a hdd now....sucks...I was hoping these discs would save me a few bucks, but it's just the opposite.
