I am Now working in a company in Bangalore ! I'm 22 and there's one embarrassing secret that I have, which few people know, and now I want to get rid of it!

Well it is that I Still Don't Know How To Ride a Motorcycle/Scooter/Scooty. I know I know it's shameful but I never bothered about it till now. Now I feel very bad that I lack this very basic quality. I have rode bicycle as a kid manytimes but never bothered to learn to ride bike. Anyway so Now I want to learn it. SO plz help me in the following regards..

1)How much time will it take for me to learn bike so as to I can ride it in road safely.

2)And mostly I should I get started. I'm new to the city(Bangalore) and I don't have any relative or close friends here! So is there any school or centre which teaches you to ride a bike from very basic. If yes, what is it and fees!

Also any other suggestion you wanna give is welcome!!

Vroom Vroo....oops.................BANG!!!!!

P.S. My name is not J.SMith

Everybody starts at some point. Nothing to be embarrassed about :)

There are many driving schools for two-wheelers too. But, as you can already ride a bi-cycle, balancing a scooter/motorcycle wouldn't be a prob. Only thing you would have to get used to, is using the gear, releasing the clutch part.

Would take about 2-3 days of practise! Ask one of your friends to help you out. As such you may not need 'professional' help of driving schools. :P

Perhaps you could start with auto-gear scooters. Get used to the weight/balancing and then try bikes.

Where are you put up in B'lore?

Yes approach any 4 wheeler riding schools , they even teach 2 wheelers also . No need to get embarrassed ,at least you are making an effort .

Suggestion : Don't opt for learning activa or gear less 2 wheeler , opt for geared vehicle like a splendor or any other bike , that way you can even ride scooters later with little effort .You will be getting geared license so that you can ride all the 2 wheelers later:) .

Any idea of any two-wheeler teacher around it!!
As I already said, I'm new to the city and don't have many friends here! Just collegues!

I'm near Banshankari area. As I said I am new to the city and hence not many friends I know, only collegues ! Do you know any school to teach twowheeler near jayanagar area?

Well I would say first start with a gearless vehicle e.g. activa and then move on to bikes. It will be much easier that way. Getting comfortable with gearless bikes shouldn't take more than 2-3 days but bikes with gears might take some time.

Learn to drive a car and feel good about that! :P

Anyway, like TheMask pointed out, there is no need to feel embarrassed about it.

I'm sure you have friends at work(colleagues), so speak to your closest and ask him to help you with the same (best way as opposed to going to a driving school). Since you have no problem balancing the vehicle, concentrate on the other aspects like acceleration, gear-shifting and braking.

You could consider getting a 2nd hand motorcycle to practice on and once your ready to take on the chaotic Bangalore traffic, get yourself a new one !

Knowing bangalore traffic and even otherwise, a motorcycle (any two wheeler) will come in handy !

Cheers.

bah!!! is this even a problem??? come on bro... I thought something really embarrassing/serious and rushed into the thread

@ OP: I'll try to find out, but check in your neighbourhood. There ought to be atleast a couple of driving schools! :ohyeah:

I wouldnt suggest that, especially someone new in a new city. Get one bike and stick to it. A good second hand bike makes good sense as initial investment would be much lower - a decently good second hand bike would cost just about 30~40% of a new bike's price.

I learned in one day. Well, my dad gifted me a splendor and i never had driven anything except hero puch that too only a couple of times. My inspiration > All my relatives were taking it on a ride in front of me when all i did was clean it everytime they would come back. So, on the first night itself i drove it with a cousin guiding me from the pillion seat. It was a Saturday night. Then i had enough guts to drive alone so i took it on the sunday morning to gain more experience. But i drove only on empty roads, i was in a military area, so it was easy. Then i took it to school on monday morning in full style. But damn, i met an accident. And it was totally because of my noob'ness. I was driving somewhat fast and hit a scooter from behind. lol.

So, i would say, if you know cycle then its NO big deal to drive a Motorcycle. It all about clutch and acceleration. Just drive slow for a about a month. :D
