Very weird issue with a Belkin router

My friend has a Belkin G router for his home use~ laptop and desktop. Recently his desktop had conked off. So he was using the router for net access on his laptop.

Last week he repaired his desktop, got a used LCD to replace the aging monitor. However, the router refused to allow him to access the net using the desktop. So fed up, he got the router removed and directly connected the LAN cable to the onboard LAN. He then handed me the router to check what issue could be there on it.

I found that using the LAN connection, the webGUI could not be accessed, neither could the net. Nor the other laptops which were connected via wifi.

However, via wifi, the webGUI loads, but very slowly. Also the net works!

Have tried all remediable measure possible. These include resetting the router, re installing the firmware. No change. Any help?

Seems the internal LAN link isnt reacheable via the WAN to LAN routing table. The router seems to be malfunctioning. Get it replaced if in warranty. As you have tried resetting and reflashing the firmware, it seems theres nothing you can do. Next time get a router with more warranty like the Asus one ( year) or buffalo ( 2 year). Belkin royters carries only 1 yr warranty.

Yes, methinks the same. Unfortunately, no warranty as it was bought roughly 1.5 years ago. Also, he purchased the same for ~1700 bucks when on ebay.in there were times it was available for 990 bucks!

just connect to internet using the LAN and then go to belkin configuration page by typing 192.168.2.1 and there in the connection settings, type in your LAN's mcaddress manually in the network address field and save and restart router. It will solve your problem

Plus I have done a complete reset with the firmware being reinstalled as well.

same happened with me. I then call Belkin CC and they told me to reset it. All you need is a pin, insert into reset slot and keep it pressed for 2-3 mins.

It will reset and then you can try default IP to open web page. Otherwise directly call Belkin CC. I think its toll free. They will surely help you out.

First of all know that the Broadband ISP's restrict access to the network to a specific mac address for security purposes.. whichever ISP you are using, must have either the routers mac address. if not, then they must have the adsl modem mac address and the router has the feature to clone mac addresses due to which they are able to bypass this restriction .. thats why, internet wont work if you just connect the lan cable to your pc and create a PPPoE dialer.

Belkin royters carries only 1 yr warranty.

all the belkin routers i have seen till date have liftime warranty. even i am using a belkin router with lifetime warranty.

Spoke to Belkin CC. Wasted 1 hour . At the end, phone got disconnected, had no interest in calling them again, so did not bother.

Mate, it works with the wifi, just not with the LAN. Thats all.

As far as the life time warranty goes, will check it out. AFAIK, when my friend got the router, he was told it had 1 yr warranty. He got it last year.

The warranty depends on the model, if the box says lifetime warranty then Belkin will replace the router instantly. I did it with my N150 router. However the new router has only 3 yrs warranty.

IMO Lifetime W is a farce. It just means that as long as the model is in production, you will get warranty. Thats all.

Oh. if thats the case, then see the lan ip settings on your computer and the router as well.. .first try deleting any ipaddress typed in, let the routers dhcp service assign the ip, then try. if that doesnt work, then put in the following ip: 192.168.2.X where X is any no. from 1 to 255, subnet mask as 255.255.255.0, Default gateway as 192.168.2.1 (assuming this is your routers ip address) and leave dns setting to obtain dns address automatically or type in if you have been given one from your ISP. finally try all these settings alongwith dns server address as 4.2.2.2. it is supposed to be a universal dns address. but its a long shot, assuming theres no other hardware prob. with your router. :)

Thanks for the advice, I have already done all that you have mentioned as well. The router gives me an IP address of 192.168.2.2, DHCP, DNS, Gateway server is 192.168.2.1. However, i cannot even ping the router! Tried doing a static entry, no difference. Will be asking my friend to buy a wifi card for his desktop as well.

Now, coming to 4.2.2.2 being a universal DNS, no idea. But DNS is only for name resolution, not for ip addresses. Simple.

Thanks anyways!

well i had a pretty good experience with my warranty.. i bought my belkin n router from Croma.. after about 2 months the adapter was smoked.. so i took it to them. .

they instantly ripped off a new box of the same router, and gave me a new adapter. after about 1 month. .same thing.. this time i dunno if they ripped a new box, but i got a new adapter. genuine.. now . wait for ..... it...............yes .. it happened a third time.. ..and by that time my router was discontinued and they brought out a new one with i think just changing the looks.. so they took my old router. and gave me a whole new box.. :)

No offense to you mate, but my (friends) experience with Chroma was very bad. I was on the phone with him at that time, and could hear the conversation of the reps there. :@

But if you got a new router, pretty good. But I dunno for how long you will get a new piece.
