Considering your rig i'd suggest you to get APC 1.1KVA-5k UPS,It'll give 10-15min backup,Anything less won't be able to take load of your system and it'll shut down as power cuts.Hope this helps.:)

Microtek is good ...i moved to microtek 800VA from APC BR1000IN...investing in the Microtek is one of the best decisions i made in a long time....thats how much i am satisfied with this UPS :D

Note :my power supply : VX450 .

If I upgrade my PSU from 550W to 850W...Should 700VA suffice for 10-15min backup ?

No you will need to get a APC BR1100VA-IN in that situation.

A very crude way of checking the output power of an UPS is halving the Amperage it is rated for. In this case an [SUP]1100[/SUP] / [SUB]2[/SUB] ~550W; so this is the rated output of the 1100VA UPS try to over-draw from this value the back-up time decreases proportionally.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

^^ Thanks a lot :)

Where can I find this UPS in Delhi (Near Janakpuri) and
How much will it cost ?

- Why not Microtek UPS ?

You can contact APC India http://www.apc.com/site/apc/index.cfm?isocountrycode=in and buy a UPS over the phone and it will be delivered to your doorstep. I noticed it is only available in certain shops in Nehru Place, so no idea how it will be sourced in Janakpuri. It will set you back by ~4600/- -->5000/-.

I have had first-hand experience of APC's after sales service and it is blazing fast, apply for a refurbished UPS till you are satisfied with your unit's performance.

Never used MicroTek UPS / peripherals (save a 2.0 speaker set).

Hope this helps, Cheerio!

^^ because the 1 kVA might come with a software connection to the PC to automate shutdown etc. and 1.1 may not. Check the details

^^ It's District Center, Janakpuri Price

7.3k for 1kVA - Nehru Place

Is it worth spending extra 2k for 1kVA model ?

I came across this post : APC Back-UPS Pro 1000VA (BR1000G-IN) Review

UPS + Extra Battery : Gives around 2+ hr backup but costing around 7.3K + 6.3k = 13.6k (UPS alone can give MAX. 30 min backup)

But Microtek 800VA Inverter gives around 3+ hr backup on same computer + supply to other equipments at home as well ....costing around 5K + 10K = 15K

Which one is the better option for long backup : UPS or Inverter ?

Inverter's by definition have a slightly longer reaction time so your PC might shut down and how can an 800VA inverter power a PC + home equipment. An 800VA UPS for once lets say that it is 100% efficient will give you roughly ~400W <-->450W worth backup. So this cannot be logically possible until the MicroTek UPS is rated much higher.

And for that matter Mr. Tech Blogger has not specified what system he was using to test the UPS?

Hope this helps, Cheerio!
