VIA announced an update to its existing IGP chipsets. The new chipset has S3 marchitecture under the hood and it will be branded as P4M890. It is a Pentium 4 chipset that supports all Pentium and Celeron CPUs - even the ones with 1066 MHz front side bus.
The chipset supports DDR 2 memory just up to 533 MHz while you can expect at least DDR 2 667 MHz support. This is an entry level to mainstream market chipset so OEMs or Ss who choose these chipsets will probably use them with DDR 2 533 memory anyway. The chipset supports DDR memory - it is up to motherboard manufacturers whether they want to support DDR or not.
The graphics core is based on Via's UniChrome Pro graphic and the firm claims that the chipset supports Hi Def quality and that your eyes should be happy with nice DVD playback capabilities. The chipset will support HDTV up to 1080P although I am unsure if can accelerate H.264 at that resolution.
