My bro needs to replace his 21 square CRT.....the budget is 50k.

It will be used only to watch TV channels .......no HD content.

Would it be advisable to have a 42" incher Videocon Plasma (Vijay Sales Offer)over a 32" Samsung. LCD ..both priced same.

Any1 here having any experiences with Videocon .......?

LCD is always better then a Plasma due to inconsistent Plasma panel life. Though it will be covered till warranty but later on will cost very high for a replacement call.

*bangs head on wall*

Not again! There's an entire discussion on Plasma vs LCD in the Show-off section, while that has turned into a Sony vs The Rest Of The World discussion...you can do better by just simply typing in the words "Plasma vs LCD" in google. :)

You'll get facts, pure and simple. Plasma technology has moved on, the latest generation Plasmas have nothing to do with burn-in and currently no single technology is "the best at everything". LCDs are better in the smaller sizes, Plasma at 40"+ and each have their own inherent advantages.

Googe is your friend man. I agree that we're here to help, but it helps if the original poster has some knowledge of his own instead of pure opinions. :)

I am aware of the Plasma v/s LCD thingy........the question is what makes more sense 42 incher Videocon or a smaller LCD..........my question is about the brand.

Well, if you are only going to watch TV on it, makes more sense to go for the 32" Samsung since TV resolution is low and will look really stretched on the 42" screen. If however you will be watching a lot of movies, a Plasma is better any day than an LCD - Because of much higher contrast ratio and no blurring.

Theres a "just mode" on 42" panasonic Viera Plasma that works really well with Saans Bahu programmes :P.... you wont get the stretched feel. check it out.

The model has a inherent res of 1024x768..... but has a very good inbuilt 1080p upscaler.... Best of both worlds....:P

Also the panny is amongst the best in colors and can stand up to any LCD in the market...

TV would look better on the slightly-lower-res-better-scaler equipped Plasma. You should really check it out in the store...

Having said that, if you see recos...for Plasmas at the low-end Panasonic is highly preferred, I really do not know much about the Videocon. :(

Yeah, I know Plasmas are the best ! If I ever buy a 42" and above TV, ill forget about LCD ! But he has a budget of 50k only and I somehow doubt Videocon will have the upscaling technology.

well if he has a budget of 50k he can get a 37inch lcd like the sony KLV-37S310A but only if he buys in the gray market.
i am sure the videocon is no way near a panasonic in terms image processing tech.

reagular crt tvs have a resolution of 640x480 so i dont think the videocon plasma is a good buy unless u are just going to use for regular cable or DTH platforms,do note that reliance will be getting 4HD channels shortely within this year thats for sure.so better buy a TV which is capable of HD content.

Panasonic PV7 42" PLasma for 60k (With Bill and Warranty !) :ohyeah:

This TV has the upscaling technology that Vij mentioned.

This TV will eat comparable LCD TVs for breakfast, lunch AND dinner.

Yes P7H is a good choice. It has just mode feature...

Just mode stretches the picture horizontally but uses a special stretching algorithm to minimize distortion in the middle of the screen. With this method, distortion on a 4:3 source is virtually undetectable.

^^Croma has the PV7 for 60k and if you use an HSBC card to buy, you get another 1500 bucks off. Its the best TV you can buy around that price by a huge margin.
