Videocon (yes, another Indian brand) has just launched their Android running smartphones, the Videocon A20 and Videocon A30. As the name suggests, the A30 is the bigger brother of the two with a much more complete feature set, albeit a higher price tag. But you'll find out more on that as you read on.
Videocon A20

The Videocon A20 is the lower end smartphone. In fact, calling it entry level is an understatement to entry level when we are at the dawn of a new year, 2013. For 2013, this smartphone packs 2009's Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It's okay if the images of dinosaurs popped up in your head right now, it's perfectly understandable. We don't know what Videocon was thinking with launching such a device, and then with such a price tag. Nevertheless, it's specifications.
Videocon A20 Specifications

  • 1 GHz single core Snapdragon chipset
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 3.5" HVGA (480*320)
  • 3 MP rear cam, VGA front cam
  • 512 MB internal memory
  • micro SD card, upto 32 GB
  • 1350 mAh battery
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Many things sting about the specifications above. This includes the non-existent 256 MB of RAM, an HVGA display (something I haven't written in a while now), the low internal memory and the inexcusable Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board.
Videocon A20 Price in India

The Videocon A20 is priced at Rs. 4,999. If this device were more like Rs. 2,499 we could give it a slight consideration.

Buyers please beware of this phone, read all specs and views before making a buying decision.
Videocon A30

The Videocon A30 looks like the device that should be launched in the budget price range. We are surprised with what the Videocon A30 packs, considering it is so much an improvement over the A20, we wonder what went wrong with the younger sibling. See for yourself.
Videocon A30 Specifications

  • 1 GHz dual core Snapdragon chipset (S4 Play)
  • Adreno 203 GPU
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 4" WVGA (800*480) capacitive display
  • 5 MP auto focus camera, LED flash
  • VGA front facing camera
  • 4 GB of internal memory
  • expandable storage up to 32 GB via micro SD card
  • 1,500 mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The Videocon A30 gets everything right for a budget phone. A dual core chip, 512 MB of RAM (we wish the standard goes p to 1 GB soon), a 4" decent resolution WVGA display, a 5 MP camera and even plenty of internal storage. The battery seems just enough for a day's usage. Android 4.0 ICS is welcome, although we wish Jelly Bean becomes a standard soon as well.
Videocon A30 Price in India

The Videocon A30 is priced at just Rs. 7,299. For that price, this device is an absolute steal.

We can easily recommend this over all the single core packing competition from Karbonn, Micromax or Spice in the same price range.
