message: Somebody by name of Chetan_Phutela@infosys.com may add you in orkut. Don't accept it. Its a virus. Tell everyone on your bulletin because if somebody on your list adds him, you get the virus too. Tell everyone on your list not to open anything from Chetan. It is a hard drive killer and a very horrible virus.

Theres a link in that which i guess points to some malicious webpage, wasnt stupid enough to click it and havent heard of anyone else doing it, yet.
 
^^ Here is the link ur taking about http://ork0t.com/ a fake login page for noobs to hack noobs.IMHO thers no virus threat to orkut unless its some specific targete towards one person as sql injection or physical access.
 
^^ i dunno how its done, but there is a bot that scraps a link in random member's scrap book. that link takes u to a page that has a virus... better dont open any links that are posted by members who are not on your friends list

It is scrapped by your friends only.
 
... if somebody is idiota enough to not only open a link of gibberish but also save/run the exe that it points to ... well ... who can help him/her

The link mentioned above ( ork0t.com ) is a fake login page and it has ceased existing 1 week back as ppl came to know of it, so nothin to worry abt!! :)

btw Udit, that was a spam to deface someone with that account. Please dont promote it as it cannot be that a single guy has a virus and neither Orkut is such advanced to crash ur comp by just adding someone! ;)

The spanish scrap "virus" was real enough - however people were spreading misleading information that the scrap was the virus or the link was the virus. Since links themselves are usually harmless, I thought i'd check it out.

Once you do click, it directs you to an executable file called "Fotovideo.exe" - anybody with a trace of brain matter will know they ought to be careful with any Executable file. Sure enough this file is a Trojan/mass scrapper of some sort, and automatically starts propagating the links through scraps.

Apparently orkut is a breeding ground of idiots, so i wasnt surprised when I received a couple of scraps myself! :bleh:
