Virus problem (winlogon.exe) in my netbook

Hey guys
Need some help with this trojan.

My netbook is running Win XP and this virus notification keeps coming.
None of the options besides NO ACTION work.
My anti virus is Avast 4.8 Professional and virus definitions are up-to-date.

Google hasn't been very helpful as searches have lead me to contradictory solutions.

Please advise.
 
Is your machine dual boot? you can run scan from the second boot. Winlogon.exe is a system process, you can not play with it from the system you are running in. In case you have already found the culprit dll which is injected in winlogon, use gmer.exe to delete it. If not on dual boot you can create a USB boot and scan that drive from it.

Didn't work. MBAM didn't detect the trojan and ComboFix did, but it came back almost a few minutes after it had supposedly removed it.

hi,

1. disable system restore

2. go offline just to be sure if its not a network worm

3. use combifix it should clean it

4. last but not least post a hijackthis log so that we can help u further.

I can't remove winlogon.exe, its a system file. Didn't detect anything

Now explorer.exe is infected with the same thing. Never happened before until I used combofix.
