Visiting Chennai . Inputs required

I will be in Chennai for a couple of days. Would reach on 19th (Monday) in the morning , somewhere around 6 am.
I need to visit the US consulate on the 20th. So planning to spend the 19th in that area .

Whats the distance between Egmore Railway Station and Gemini Flyover. How much will the Chennai Auto-wala rip me off by , any buses available ?
Any decent Hotel/Lodge around the US consulate area ?
I shall be travelling alone

Suggestions welcome :)
 
distance From Egmore railway station gemini flyover is not much, you will be charged around 50-80rs ...... take a auto don't bother about buses or you will be lost lol ......

About the budget, looking some where around 600-700 bux for a non-A/C room (until its not very hot there)
 
Rooms will be available but you need to go Little further from Gemini - Nungambakkam police station, or its better to look out for a room in Mylapore / Mandaveli area.

BTW where do you stay at Hyd ?
