hi can any one guide me regarding the difference between vista 64 bit and vista 32 bit as i am intending to buy an new pc also what r the advantages of vista over xp . do i need to wait for window 7 or should i go ahead.
thanks looking forward for early reply.:)

Well I have Vista 64 bit installed currently and not having used Vista 32 bit before I cannot really compare both. But yes, compared to XP 32 bit, the vista x64 version is far superior. Have installed a few 'core' x64 products and they seem to be better at performance than their 32 bit counter parts (Case in point, Winrar x64).

And yea, I can enable hardware acceleration on Vista x64 while I cannot do the same on XP 32 bit due to stuttering problems.

These were the 2 immediate benefits I noticed. There could be more especially in gaming.

And afaik Win 7 is concerned I guess people who have tested it will know better. But What i KNow about win 7 is that it is better and faster than Vista.

If u want a stable OS without any freaky bugs, stay with Vista x64. Windows 7 x64 is good but still has lots of small tiny bugs which mar the experience to a certain level.
In Gaming Win7 x64 will be ~2fps faster than Vista Ultimate x64 but u won't notice this difference unless u r looking for it...:P

So, stay with Vista x64. :)

And plz don't compare Vista x64 with XP x32. Vista is a modern, secure, stable OS with just everything to satisfy the gamer and the home user alike. If u have lots of cheapo RAM, Vista will satisfy u like no XP can. :P
XP is like a age old OS. Forget it. :bleh:

So true, also if you have more than 4 GB memory, XP 32 bit cannot use all of it, you need to have a 64 bit os to be able to use more than 4 GB

i'll strongly recommend win xp !:hap2:
VISTA is for someone who just wants to waste money on a material which really really of no use!
it seems u haven't run vista ,its crappy warnings will shut the doors of u'r patience:@
i agree that vista is more attractive than xp but windows blinds is made for fulfilling this need!

What warnings are u talking about? I get no warnings...:bleh:

If u are talking about UAC, that was designed for ur security. If u feel a little uncomfortable with UAC settings turn it off or make it less frequent...

So, is this the deciding factor for a OS for u?

no dude that was not the only deciding factor ,:P
vista demands everything more than xp.
it asks for unnecessary permissions which are really frustating!

mind u people using vista are happy and satisfied because they have spend so much money on it:rofl:

So, after 9 years of an OS being released u still want to use it coz Vista asks u permissions for ur own security! :bleh:
When RAM is dead cheap u still want to use XP coz it demands less..Oh yeah run XP on a 256MB RAM system...:bleh:
Why won't it demand more than XP? Don't u demand more than what u demanded 9 years back. Dnt people go for new tech in 9 years? Will u be happy watching ur same old CRT when every1's around watching HD on LCDs?
Oh propbably u will coz old age rips would look better on a CRT...:bleh:

Grow up dude...Vista is not just about looking good. It has hell lot of features to make XP look bad. Games wise, Vista is faster than XP and to add to it, it has DX10...And u forgot Aero...Whether u install Windowblinds or anything in the world, nothing looks as good as Vista or Win 7 to be even more precise...

Oh, i forgot, u want to be 2 generations behing Windows 7...

64 BIT OS basically supports..... 64 BIT ARCHITECTURE......

AND....As you are going for new systemmm...... (And Iam sure you are getting good enough sytem which supports...)

You get Enhanced performance on it....

AND SAID EARLIER If you have RAM greater than or equal to 4GB...you cannot utilise on 32 bit but x64 you can.....

And no doubt Vist IS much better.....Than XP.... You no way want to use an inferior and Old OS.....

iTS PRODUCTION HAS ALSO BEEN STOPPED......

And Since wIN 7 RC build 7100 has been released its even better that Vista..... In terms of speed and stability and uses much less RAM and resources...And have even better response time than VISTA.....

But still during in development phase have lil bugs here and there.....Though being treated and looked after continously....

I am using RC x64.....And Am loving the work experince.....Though some software suffers the comptabilit issue...But then they are contionously updating themself as 7 gonna release soon...

And the latest driver from the co... Is also expected to released soon after...

Anyways finally it all on you.... What you want to use exactly as your need

Will recommend VIST x64 as of now untill 7 RTM of Going Gold version are being released....

Best of Luck.......

Regards....

Why crib about warnings? Just shut UAC down! It's among the first things I've always done whenever I've installed Vista. I'm sure all those who're using this site regularly are competent enough to use a computer without windows holding your hand like that.

WRT resources especially ram usage, if you still believe in keeping maximum amount of ram free just because you like to underutilize (as if RAM is still measured in MB's these days!) your resources, disable superfetch!

Granted Vista is slower - alot slower - than xp and 7 to boot and shut down but it's a minor annoyance till 7 hits retail. BTW Windows 98 could also let you do your word processing and accounting or even check your mail and read your news, why use xp? It uses even less resources

Well you do have to move on with times. Get Vista or Win7 when it comes out. Go for the 64bit edition if you have a 64bit processor.

Although I personally use and will continue to use XP :ohyeah:

And at some level I do agree with this post, I wouldnt recomend anybody else be stuck with us relics of an era long gone. :)

I am a Fan of Xp, not a Fanboy.

Actually i have used Vista x64 and i think it has lot of bugs also all those eye candy effects are of no use if basic things like IIS are not starting on it.Actually i switched to XP after using vista because i think it's more stable than vista any time. Also you need 64 bit OS if you have more than 4 GB's of ram otherwise there are very few applications out there which are 64 bit.I am currently using win 7 RC 1 x86 and it is the most stable OS i have used after XP and also it is no resource hog like Vista. So use XP 64 bit or Win 7.

Use Free windows 7 64bit RC1 for some time and get windows 7 64 bit OS after it gets released....(October 22nd)

Windows 7 final will be better than Vista, so dont waste your money on XP or Vista now.....

And regarding XP vs Vista: Vista is better if you have more than 2GB of RAM IMO...
