Vista and Xp Networking

Hello Guys,
Am facing a problem with my vista SP2 networking with XP SP3.
i have a ADSL modem BSNL
LAN connection by crossed cable (no switch ect) Directly connectd
Vista win on Desktop
XP on laptop
Desktop Pc have internet
Now problem is:
i am not able to access internet on Laptop ,i can access both pc very easly they can ping each other but no luck for internet on XP window on my laptop
My settings are as follow:
Vista side on my desktop:
ADSL have: LAN have:
192.168.1.10 10.0.0.20
255.255.255.0 255.0.0.0
192.168.1.1

XP side on my laptop:
LAN have:
10.0.0.30
255.0.0.0
no gateway.....result...i can ping each other,i can see both pc in workgroup,but no internet
then i set the IP of laptop on auto then there is limited connectivity icon comes.
i try everything like disable firewall,setup wizard on xp,restart pc,disable enable LAN... all the network connection on vista side is private and sharing is on netwok discovery is on..firewall off..nothing works on above said setting if i set them on auto...if i set them with IP then am not able to use internet...
so pls guys help me,tell me where am wrong...i like to access net and share files both at a time..
i have dual boot on vista machine with XP.when i switched to XP on Desktop,everything runs fine like a rocket..dont know wht this vista wants...so hoping a good reply soon..Thx in Advance:)
 
i used class C range as u said subnet to 255.255.255.0 with ip 192.168.0.5 on vista and 192.168.0.10 on xp still nothing happen
i am able to see both pc on both side i can share things on both and use them..i can ping both pc ...but no luck for Internet..:(
 
pl tell me the gateway setting for my xp end..?

I am taking your computer name of XP as( Just for explaining )

Computer name SYSTEM1

Workgroup MSHOME

Use IP on XP as 192.168.0.xxx what ever you like let me pick ip as

IP 192.168.0.75

Subnet 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.0.5 (your Vista machine ip)

DNS server 192.168.0.5

In advanced DNS suffix for this connection as MSHOME.NET

On Vista side

Same workgroup MSHOME and your IP 192.168.0.5

Open host file from /windows/system32/drivers/etc with notepad.

Give two blank lines after last entry then type....

192.168.0.75 SYSTEM1.MSHOME.NET (Give tab to separate IP and Name)

Restart both machines and try to access internet on XP now.
 
Let me get this straight:

Vista has direct connection to adsl connection

You have enabled internet connection on Vista

You will be connecting to internet from laptop (with xp) connected to the vista machine thru cross cable.

Solution: default gateway for laptop should be the vista ip.

Thx mr Virus ur way is little bit messy but it works on my PC's thanks a lot:hap2:

thx my frnd thank youy very much for this reply.my problem is solved now,i can access the pc with sharing and INTERNET:hap2: both..thx
