I am installing Vista x64 Ultimate SP1 integrated, one IDE DVD rom & 1.5TB SATA HDD connected to motherboard. The HDD has 1 primary & 5 logical partitions. BIOS setting are for set "configure sata as AHCI" I also tried "configure sata as IDE", even that fails.

It says "Windows is loading files..." then shows the screen, Vista background loads, mouse loads, "Install Windows" window does not launch, the screen remains blank. I tried many times & thought the dvd is the problem, so I made another dvd from my nlite backup but that too has the same problem, the disk was verified by nero for errors.

I then tried with XP SP3 integrated disk in DVD drive withexcatlythe above settings, XP installed successfully.
Any ideas what is preventing the vista to boot from disk, just to note I had used the same hardware & same vista dvd to install it earlier.

I checked DVD rom+loose cables but cant find any fault either with hardware or in bios settings.

I also removed 2 gb ram from total 4gb, even that does not solve the problem.

I finally managed to install, seems the DVDrom which works fine when installing XP starts misbehaving under Vista.

Seems Vista is too choosy on hardware performance.

Yep Vista is very finicky. I had to sell a perfect IDE DVD writer after installing Vista. Under XP is worked fine but under Vista it was getting IO errors. Changing ports, drive configs nothing helped.

Finally, installed DVD Writer with Sata interface.
