Vista not detecting external hdd

i have this issue with vista not recognizing any external hdd's...
problem started after i formatted the 10gb recovery drive they give along with the laptop..

so after that vista now cant even detect the 10gb partition i deleted and neither the external hdd's

here is a scrren shot of the disk status:





it gives tht error if i try to go to properties or click on set drive letter or path..
the phone card works fine tho..
its just the first partition of the hdd and all external hdds
 
I actually figured it out by myself and I'm posting solution for future reference. I realized the problem started after installing an update from windows so I had to uninstall one by one and then reboot and see which one was the issue and found out that update KB943899 was the problem, after uninstalling that I was able to see all my USB drives including my external HD so for anyone with this kind of problem, try to uninstall that one and then configure windows update to not update automatically.
