Vista x64 SP1

7600GT

nvidia driver v181.22

Actually it wakes up when I press the key on my USB keyboard (I tried with PS2 also) It wakes up but the screen wont show up any display & I cant input the password & the power is off on the keyboard. I have to to do a hard reboot not good for hdd.

I have checked the settings they all look fine I updated to latest Nvidia driver, that's the only recent change I did, could that be the cause of it.

I disabled the automatic sleep function & made it sleep manually by pressing the keyboard Sleep button, it works fine & I could wake up without any problems, so it seems the automatic sleep function is doing something wrong.

Even automatic would work fine...Just that u'll have to hunt for the right driver for ur card...Like for my 9600GT earlier, none of the drivers worked for sleep but from 181 series, its working fine...:)

Maybe it's just too tired. How would you like it if someone kept trying to wake you up when you were exhausted?

Sleep and let sleep is what I say.

update ur bios..

c if the manufacturer has mentioned probs abt sleep n hibernation in their bios release..

i had similar probs wid asus boards which were fixed in later bios release.

another problem might be a buggy display driver.

bt mostly bios issue if the keyboard is also unresponsible.

Updated the bios still the same issue, seems the nvidia driver is causing this let me revert back to old driver & see if that solves the problem.

installed windows 7 & the sleep/wake function works fine with default BIOS settings, seems vista giving problems.

Arre, its not the OS yaar, its the drivers which are responsible for this...Like I told, they did not work for me till some 18x series came out...After i installed them, it works fine on Vista itself...
Even there used to be a overlay issue while recording in tuner card and everything looked black but after these drivers, be it recording or watching TV, it looks the same...

The culprit for sleep even in case of laptops happend if u install the drivers for desktop with modded inf...

Anyway, if u r comfortable with Win 7 Beta, then no worries...:hap2:

Now windows 7 also showing some what similar problem

when I press sleep button the computer goes into sleep (every thing shuts down) just after 1 sec it start again.

I am running at default BIOS settings do I need to change some setting to get this work?

i don't get the screen back, the keyboard goes off so i cant input anything on the keyboard, its the same I faced in vista too.

there must be some solution to it.

I had that issue in 32-bit Vista. I tried sleep mode, never wake up, i tried powering off the cpu, still no response, it worked only after removing bios battery for 2mins.

Motherboard : ASUS M2N-MX

as far I know removing the battery resets the cmos, right?

what does cmos have to do with this issue?

I am running at BIOS default setting, there are few setting in it should I change it n see?

First of all, which mobo do you have?

Next, if intel Go into your BIOS, Load default settings, then go back into the bios, you should see something like ACPI suspend state, usually in the power feature of your mobo, set that to S1 and S3 state and enable the "wake PC by keyboard" option if there is one...That should work.

If it doesnt work, then update to your latest BIOS.

The CMOS battery powers your BIOS, removing it will totally reset your bios...Kind of lie the clear cmos buttons on new mobos...That might work..

Also have you tried waking up your pc by pressing the power button instead of the keyboard? Before a bios update, I used to have the same problem, keyboard wouldnt wake up the display.

BIOS was updated to latest version

Asus P5B dlx mobo

wake PC by keyboard is checked in BIOS

see attached file BIOS setting image which i have now done on ur advice but I can only choose S1or S3 else auto

When I press Sleep button whatis happening is that its actually hibernating

It shuts down completely for 2-3 seconds then power up again but the power is only for the cabinet fans the hdd light up but the keyboard does not get power back so now I cant wake it up & I have to do mains off from the UPS.

Then I start again & computer now says "windows resuming" instead of "windows starting"

It then brings all my program open in the last state.

Try disabling hibernation in the power options menu in the control panel...Now im suspecting the OS not able to wake up...Maybe a fresh reinstall or a repair might work too.

On fresh install of windows7 x64 this was working fine if u read my post, but after few boots this problem cheeped in, same happened with vista x64.

I have already kept hibernation disabled here are my settings

attached additional BIOS screen from APM configuration

On my asus 780g, sleep works fine as long as I don't turn off power from the mains. If I switch off the mains, then my PC won't wake up, and I need to hard reboot. This is with vista x64 sp1.

even I am not turning the power from mains.

2 things I tried

1. sleep if ideal for 30 mins, computer will sleep but cant wake up bcoz the keyboard (tried USB & PS2 both) wont get the power back. Infact the keyboard is loosing the power that's the whole problem earlier when it use to work then on sleep mode the Num Lock light on Kb & power LED use to blink stating that its a sleep mode. I have to switch off the UPS then "Resume the windows" which confirms that instead of sleep its going into hibernation

2. I manually press the sleep button & try to wake up the same happens too, It hibernates.
