VoIP Spokn.com not working - help please

Bennie

Disciple
Hey,

I registered for Spokn.com as I need a VoIP provider to make overseas calls. I read about Spokn.com on TE, so I signed up.

I have entered all details in my router, which is a Billion 7404VGPX. But still the router is not registering the VoIP as success..

I have got both Airtel and BSNL connections - it hans't worked on either.

I have only connected a normal corded phone to the router's "Phone 1" port. Do I need a cordless phone for VoIP ?

Please help.

Here are some screenshots of the ruter's configuration/status pages:

Hi,

We suggest you to make the following changes and let us know your feedback:
1. Under "SIP Device Parameters", change
- RTP port to 10004.
- Region to United States.

2. Under SIP Accounts, change
- Expire (Seconds) to 180.
- Leave "Outbound Proxy Address" & "Outbound Proxy Port" field blank

3. Now, save the changes and check if your Spokn account is registered.

Also, note that in order to use Spokn successfully the port 5060 has to be open on your network. Hence, please check the same with your ISP and then try using Spokn.

In case the problem persists, request you to write to us at support@spokn.org to assist you further.

Failure... cannot save above settings. Message comes up as "The value is not empty or not zero!". See screenshot below.

It will only let me Save this section if I fill in details for both "Outbound Proxy Address" & "Outbound Proxy Port". It appears you can't leave them blank.

You guys have an official support channel on TE, which is one of India's biggets forums. I would expect that you have this information already: Do Airtel or BSNL block port 5060 ?

as you may already know, Airtel is the biggest mobile / telephony / ISP company in India. I'm sure you would know this or can find out. :)

@Bennie:

1. Enter the "Outbound Proxy Address" & "Outbound Proxy Port" as spokn.com & 5060 respectively. Once done, apply the settings and you should be registered to Spokn and ready to make calls.

2. We do not have a support channel on TE. You can always write to us at support@spokn.org if you have any queries on using Spokn.
We would be glad to help you with the same.

Also, we will be unable to comment on Airtel or BSNL blocking the port 5060. This port is usually not blocked for home networks by ISP's in India.
However, we had received complains from few customers who were using Airtel broadband. Airtel had upgraded their services and post that old routers were not compatible to each other. This means, if anyone is using a old router and trying to connect for VOIP system with Airtel might encounter issues.

3. "Stealth" means that the status of the port is not disclosed. It may be open or blocked.

just use betamax if u want free calling/ cheap rates, spokn charges for USA (Landline and Mobile) and UK (landline) which (and many more) are free on betamax for 4 months with 10 euro charge
