Hi,

I just got newbie audiophile HT system. Panny XR 57 and Athena Micra 6 5.1 speakers from the US. Wanted to set it up here in my home, but the need to reduce the voltage to 110v for the receiver and the subwoofer. Can anyone suggest a decent transformer (or its specifications) which could take the load of the Panny and the subwoofer and also reduce line noise or maybe any other device apart from the transformer which can reduce line noise (and thus improved audio performance). Thanks.

Rishi

If you are in Bangalore, try Universal Transformer - I purchased 1500VA for my HT (yamaha + polk + DIY sub)

Thanks Yusuf, any idea on Line conditioners? I have a Monster Cable Home Theater PowerCenter HTS 200, but wasn't sure it will be that helpful.

No idea. I use complete 4KVA house stabilizer and basic surge protector which takes care of variation and surge. May be I will check it out when I am in market next.

My take is, If people recommend a Line conditioner in US, we definately need a Line conditioner here in India, the power supply is very erratic. Although when I get the transformer, I'll check it with my Monster cable AV 200 to see if it makes a difference, coz apart from surge protection it has some circuitry that provides cleaner power (probably not as good as dedicated line conditioners).

AV 200 has Clean Powerâ„¢ filters to prevent AC power pollution from degrading performance, so you get better sound and picture

If there is a marked difference I'll think about it, but anyway I just have the Athena's no Wharfdales's or Velodyne's or Orbs in my setup.. but do let me know if you encounter any available line conditioners in Bangalore.

BTW. I'm from B'lore too, where do you shop Audio products there? I might be in the market for a pair of decent Front channel speakers to make my setup 7.1 (the Athena micra satellite speakers aren't that powerful, work pretty well as surround speakers but lack the mid range required in the front channel).

there are few shops in Bangalore for audio products, some of I recently checked:

For wharfdale contact Anand from DeciBels (behind safina plaza) very nice service and attitude. I was refered to them by their main distributor who is known to one of my friend. Although somehow I did not purchase wharfdale, DeciBels left excellent impression by their service and knowledege - kind of less in India

I am sure you might be aware of ProFX, they stock few brands including Polk, Denon etc. service is ok. They also seems be knowledgeable guys and provided home demo.

For JBL, Infinity and HK, check sahil internation on levelle road.

Thiel, Rel, Velodyne - ARN system, Fraser town - IMO, very expensive...much higher price compared to US. There is an another velodyne dealer too but I suggest to avoid them with pathetic attitude if you are purchasing below 1 lakh, they also have fix charges of Rs. 500 for any home demo,

Sonodyne has showroom in Forum mall. Jamo shop is in Garuda mall.

There is one vendor with quite attractive speakers but just forgot their name .

For DIY stuff, there is not much choices but if you are interested, ping me - I am making a subwoofer right now.
