VLC is also great but the videos are a little pixelated as compared to MPC.

Media Player Classic - Homecinema with MadVR renderer. Easily the best media viewing solution on the planet.

VLC's compatibility rocks, but renderer sucks.

I'm using the same combination, however with MadVR, I get an status message about "Failed to Load Shader ...." do you get such an message or did you do anything to solve this. I have dx9 up2date, latest MadVR and latest MPC Homecinema
