I am getting VPU recovery message during some game like - Wanted and HAWX demo - hence making it completely unplayable.

I have freshly installed Win Xp -after getting this card but still the problem persist

^^ Try diableing AA and try reducing hardware acceleration in display properties

Also clean install latest ATI catalyst drivers

What clocks ? The only time I've got VPU Recover was when the card was OC'ed and it wasn't stable.

How would disabling AA or reducing hardware acceleration help? :S
@OP, as freaky stated it happens when overclocking. Have you overclocked your card? It can also happen due to overheating, what temperature does your card run at?

And no point in reducing hardware acceleration, its beats the whole point of having a graphics card.

As others suggested, check the temps, ensure the card is getting good clean power. Which PSU do you have? Also do you get VPU recover in all games, or just this one? Try some other GPU intensive games like Crysis and report.

here is the story :

1. I have not OCed the card- all peripherals of my pc running at stock speed.

2. I was running gpu-z parellaly while running the game -

idle temp= 45 degree - in game = 57 degree

3. Its game specific- I am getting in games like - HAWXS demo ,Wanted demo, pes09 demo, the Settlers rise of an empires.

4. I run crysis and its runs well so far in my previous xp install - no vpu.

---

there is one surprising observation - > in my older Winxp - the settlers was running well without an y vpu error while other games that I mentioned above giving me vpu error- then I thought there may be some driver problem and my earlier nvidia driver may be left some traces( i removed the nvidia driver using the standard process - >add remove -reg cleaner - safe mode>driver sweeper)- I was using catalyst 9.5

then I reinstall winxp and try to play the settlers and it started giving me vpu after running for 1 mnts -every time-makes it completely unplayable.

then I removed catalyst 9.5 and get 9.4 (using the same process mentioned above)

Lastly i installed FarCary and run it for around half an hour, max out everything and it run well.

few things you guys may consider :

1. my mobo is of nvidia chipset - geforce 6100

2.I don't have Xp Sp3

3.I am using 400 w zebby economic series

That is strange. Its usually Crysis that makes the card give a VPU Recovery error :P When I overclocked my card, it was only Crysis that kept crashing everything else worked fine. Your temps also seem under control.

Ahhh... The PSU. Is it possible for you to try a better one (even a CM Extreme Power would do) and report ?

Try Catalyst 8.11 or 8.12 after a complete removal of the existing drivers and check as well.

I will try Catalyst 8.11 or 8.12

going for a new psu is the last option for me - but wil go for it if there is no other way

I am using catalyst 8.11 and able to play the settler rise of an empire but pes2009 still give vpu; i will try wanted also and report.

Regarding the psu i am gunning for corsair cx400 ( considering my future upgrade)-if i got a 10% coupon thn i will go for vx450

It happened with me too...but only while playing godfather 2. Seems like a bug in the driver. Was using 9.4 drivers

not only pes2009 ..i tried wanted today at the lowest setting...n got the vpu.damn.

If aTI driver so lame why people care of ATI ;if this really happens for crap ATI driver- i will never come back to ati and insist all others to stick with nvidia
