Hi. My Altec Lansing VS2621 has a problem. The sub woofer starts a hum after a while. When I switch it on, there won't be any hum. But it starts becoming audible after around 3 hours. The hum loudness increases with time. This has been there since the day I bought it. I didn't worry about it back then as I didn't use it for longer durations back then. But it's irritating me now. What could be the problem? I bought it in march 2011. So it's still under warranty. Should i get an RMA done?

Well my old sound box had this issue as soon as it got power, and once it booted into OS everything was normal..... traced o a faulty /loose connecting surge protector.

nce i replaced it, one that offered a more snug fit to the 2 pin sockt, everything was fine.

Can you try connecting to a different socket in your home?

^^Yeah. I thought the same as I plug it in my UPS designed for 3 pin plugs. I had tried plugging it into a socket after it started the hum but the hum continued. I'll try connecting it to a tighter socket from the beginning to see if it develops any hum. Thanks for the suggestion.

Finally back home after a long time. I connected it directly to a wall socket at 9pm and it is still turned on without any hum at all. The problem was with the looser socket. Otherwise it should have developed an unbearable hum. So, that solves the problem here. Thanks to y'all.
