VSAT Linkage for Institution?

Okay, first of all, I am not from India. I am from a kinda remote town in Nepal studying MBBS.

Good place, great climate and people. One thing that's not so good is "Internet" penetration. [Kinda obvious since it's remote.]

Since there are a lot many guys from institutions here [which are remote but have VSATs and stuff], I thought I might ask it here.

The Hospital as well as Departments have good enough Internet access. But there's nothing for us students in the hostel.

I am writing a proposal to the administrative committee with regard to this demand and thought of conducting a small research myself.

Say we need to provide Internet access to 200 computers at a time. Starting from scratch, what all is needed and what is the cost of such a setup?

Any help in this regard would be helpful.

There is no one line answer to your problem. Your best bet would be to contact the ISP providing internet access to your hospital and deparments. They will quote a price for providing access to your hostel.

If your hospital is already connected it's just a matter of connecting the hostel to the hospital's network.

^ The thing is, the connection that the hospital has, upon sharing, would be unusable for us for anything other than e-mail! [Added: Our hospital already has a VSAT terminal installed and we get Internet from a Hong Kong based ISP.]

I am actually doing this research to evaluate the work of our IT Department itself.
I need this information to proceed further!
