Guys I would like to know which is a better car and VFM.

-> AC in the car is must.

-> Seating comfort for old people is also a consideration and the main reason for going for these cars.

-> The car is not going to be used for long distance travelling(maybe once or twice in a year at most), only city rides and shopping.

-> Is the AC in these cars decent? As I have seen a 800cc car having AC gives almost no cooling effect in peak summer.

-> Which has the better suspension? Veeeeery Bad roads here.

Also can u guys recommend the pros and cons of each car. Santro is good looking but wagonr seems to be good in all other dept.

Any links to other sites will also be helpful.

And I would like to know how many ps is 1 bhp? As santro has 63ps and wagonr has 64bhp.

1.015 BHP = 1 PS....

Or it is the other way round....

1.015PS = BHP...

But it is not much of a difference....

Id say the Santro Xing.

Own it, and surely its better than the normal Santro and the Wagon R.

The Wagon R looks like a box on wheels.

The Xing gets an In-City mileage of around 12 - 14 km/l.

santro xing. been using for 3 years now. no problems yet. but I prefer driving bigger cars.

but as you said seating comfort is main criteria. then go for wagonR. its much more comfortable. especially for like grandparents. we too were considering that car but then got a 2nd hand fiat paliot. great car & has much more power than santro.

Considering all the above i'd suggest you go for the Indica Xeta!! its bigger than both WagonR n Santro...has a very good suspension and big doors so that the elderly can have easy access..

Hmm I dont think so...Tallboy design seems to have ambassador car like comfort

Whats ur budget like? If you have a decent budget, get a swift instead. Way better than all the other cars.

Wagon R is good in all departments... especially its AC is better than the santro , but only bad thing in WagonR is tht the back seats dont have tht much leg space , hence may be a bit problmatic for old people in long rides...

thus go for the Santro..

dont want the legs to be cramped, thats the main concern. How much is swift?

about 4.7 i think.. swift is a gr8 car powerful engine good millage and real fun to drive ;)

Swift drinks like hell though, cause its a 1.3L engine (Esteem Derivative), but has crazy pickup (cause of its light chassis).

1 POINT THOUGH : Swift doesn't have Gas-charged shocks, so bumps are gonna be hard.

Its around 5.3L on road for VXi.

Between Wagon R and Santro, the Xing for sure.

Santro will give u slightly higher in the range of 14-15 (If Tuned Correctly)

while my Wagon R gives around 13-ish.

Though my Santro is the Xing 1.1 (Not with the new Epsilon engine, which supposedly improves milage)

Having done close to 80K kms of highway and city driving in the last 3 yrs on multiple cars, I persnally conssider myself as somewhat ogf an expert on automobiles ;) :p

here is my personal take on the Wagon R and the Santro:

Santro:

Pros: better leg room on rear seat

Cons: Rubbery gearstick, bad tendency to roll when taking sharp turns, Vague steering, Poor Suspension

Wagon R:

Pros: Relatively better handing and suspension..marginally better performance, seats can be rolled back to create a bed sort of a thingie (Convenient for catching a quick wink on lng drives)

Cons: Cramped rear seats, boxy looks

I would personally buy a Wagon R anyday over a Santro, but then the santro perhaps makes better sense for a family man who needs space in the car and is not going to push the car too much :)

And yes, the Swift is a far superior car than both these two...if you can push up the budget a wee bit, the swift would make a lot more sensible buy

Yup, even i have the older Xing.

It gives me 14 km/L on IndianOil Premium or BP Speed only.

We dont use anything else.

Not really...swift doesn't drink much petrol. It gives around 11-12 in bangalore traffic with AC on. The engine tuning makes all the diff.

U want space n comfort...right?? nothing beats the Indica Xeta on that!! the WagonR n Santro doesnt come anywhere close in terms of space in cabin...

Here are the specs...

Santro Xing : Front Legroom 108 cm ; Rear Knee room 80cm ; Shld room 122cm ; Price 3.87lac for XG

WagonR : Front Legroom 125 ; Rear Knee room 86 cm ; Shld room 107 cm ; Price 4.10lac for VXi

Indica Xeta : Front Legroom 129 ; Rear Knee room 87cm ; Shld room 132cm ; Price 3.87lac for GLx

wagon r has 1 more prob. the interior quality is worse than santro.

the gearshift has long and sppindly shifts not short n slick like say n...ummm...esteem. santro is better inthese depts.

wagon r has a tad more space than santro, especially head room and elbow room.

wagon r is narrower than santro, so sitting 3 in the back is tough.

the other thing is wagon r s engine is derived frm 800 s , by just by adding 1 extra cynld. to that engine, so its distinctly coarse compared to santro.

@ wraith, indica has quality probs that is the only prob other wise its great prod.
