i want to buy a new camera ppl.
and my need is a 5 or a 7 megapixel digi-cam.
what are the things i should consider b4 buying?
things like,
what kinda of memory i should go for? types of lenses? etc etc
pls let me know. which one is good ... and does not exceed 16k

Well a 7MP camera for 20K!!
I dont think there is one avilable.. anyway one should look for effective pixel on the chip and not just the MP printed on the box.

Since you are on a tight budget I guess your best bet would be Canon Powershot A95. It is a very good camera for the range. 5MP.

Also I would suggest you get a copy of some photography magazine to get better idea of things.
 
You can get a Nikon 7600 7.1 mp camera for abt 13.5k. Check out http://cameras.ebay.in/ or www.jjmehta.com for a huge range of cameras along with their pricing.

You should get a minimum 5 Mp camera and preferably one from a reputed company like Sony, Nikon or Cannon.

And try to get one with the maximum amount of optical zoom. Forget digital zoom as it is useless.

If you can increase your budget a bit, go for the Fuji Finepix 5600 for 17.5k. It has 5 Mp sensor with 10x zoom. Check it out here http://www.jjmehta.com/products/fujifinepixs5600.html
 
why the stress only on optical zoom?

hey that`s a nice fuji camera bf1983 .. cant belive i missed it on jjmehta b4..

hmm..

also what kind of storage should i look at? and oh the cams can also record movies right? and how big would be the movie? as much as can be stored in the memory card or the inbuilt card?

actually fuji goes way beyond budget.. cause i have to buy a memory card too nah...

SD cards and MMC cards are the cheapest and most widely available storage cards available.

After MMC comes sony memory stick duo pro which is more expensive. Finally comes xd picture cards are the most expensive and are used by Fuji.

Also it is a good idea to buy 2-3 256 Mb cards instead of 1 GB cards. This is beacause it takes much longer to save a picture on a 1 GB card than on a 256 Mb card.

About video shooting, it depends on camera to camera. Some have abt 15 - 30 seconds of shooting while others have durations restricted by the amount of memory available.

Optical zoom is great when you are taking pictures from a distance as it does not spoil the picture quality. Digital zoom zooms the image by lowering the resolution i.e it lowers the quality and should be avoided.

Also beyond 5 Mp, there is very little difference in picture quality and the size of the image increases to a point that it is almost impossible to email pictures and share them.

so i guess i should go for around 3x256 mb MMC cards ..hmm..

ohh also do most camera`s support other cards? or is that they can only use one card? mmc or sd or xd picture ..

also is it better to buy mmc from here or dubai??

what can i get from dubai... if i want to.. (not the camera.. other acceceries)

Well it is advisable to get the cards from India itself. Some cards come with a 5 year warranty !

So if you want peace of mind, go for the cards from India itself.

Most cams like Canon use MMC and SD cards. Fuji uses ONLY Picture xD. Sony uses Memory stick, magicgate, ms duo, and ms duo pro !

From dubai, you can buy a pouch ! ;)
