Me too got the Philips QT4019 from snapdeal for 1099 a couple of days back. This was the best offer I could find. Immediately tried on a 2 week old beard. Got trimmed to a day old stubble perfectly within 5 mins without any hassles. Worth the money spent.

I don't think this will work if you need a clean shave as this is just a trimmer. You will need a shaver for that. I also have a Panasonic shaver which I got some time back but after using once I realised that dry shaving is not for me since my hair were getting pulled as I only shave twice a week. It was a waste for me and hence I went for this trimmer which perfectly suits my needs as I wanted a 1-2 day old stubbled look.
BTW did you try this correctly? Put the blade part on the top, the plasticky spring type part touching your cheek at the bottom, and go upward. What setting did you try this on?

A question. Is it smooth, like if you run it once that part is trimmed or do you run it multiple times over the same area? And if it is, does it remain like that or loses its sharpness like normal razers.

Noob questions, I know. :P

I need to run it twice or thrice at the max. Well it actually will depend on how long is your beard and how short you are aiming for. But I'd still call it pretty smooth. These are supposedly self-sharpening blades, so no dulling I guess (that reminds me, gotta find out how that works!)

Self-sharpening blades are typically found in rotary paper cutters. The base of the paper cutter, on the cutting edge, has a strip of metal along the entire length of the cutter. As the cutting blade is used to cut paper, it also rubs against this metal strip, causing the blade to sharpen.

Depends a lot on how hard your stubble/beard is. I generally get a closer trim if i run the trimmer multiple times over an area compared to a single run. I also run it directly instead of that plastic cover/guide.

Well guys, I'm also looking to get an electronic shaver (not a trimmer), but I'm new to these things, so can you suggest which one I can go for? I'm looking for a smooth shave just like using Gillete Mach3, or similar. I'll be using it daily (or alternately). On Flipkart, I saw there are some Philips models which say "Shaver cum trimmer". What are these and why would one need a trimmer, if there's a shaver? I'm confused.

I think Suhail mentioned in a post above that he didn't like to use a shaver. Is it because they hurt or something? How can I know whether I need a dry shaving or a wet shaving shaver? Are there such things like a dry electronic shaver or a wet one? Sorry, I'm not aware of these things much, just browsing at Flipkart and the links given in this thread.

@casper^ It's very hard to shave if the beard is not trimmed close beforehand. Your hair will be pulled instead of being shaved unlike when you shave with a blade. If you are using it daily, the trimmer is not necessary. But suppose you use it once in a week, the hairs are grown enough and need to be trimmed before being shaved. I'm using the Philips electric shaver-cum-trimmer from 5 years and it does its job very well. To get a close shave you need to run it a multiple times over though.

@blkrb0t , thank you for your reply. Are you using this one or any other ? The one in the link does both shaving and trimming, so I guess that's the one I should get? In case, I don't shave for a day or two, I'd use the trimmer before using the shaver. That'd do, right?

5 Years is a good life for such a product. Nice to hear that. How long does it take to shave if you do it daily? In 5 years, did you ever got any cuts or scratches or itching or any kind of hurt using this shaver?

Also, how hard or easy is it to clean it? On Flipkart, someone mentioned that it was hard to clean it when doing long beard shaving.

@casper^ Mine is the one with rotary blades for shaving and a pop up trimmer. The models have all changed now, but the basic design is the same. I had to replace one of the rotary blade in between though, after three years I believe; it cost around 500 rupees.

For a day or two stubble you can right away use the shaver, but if the hair has grown, then you need to trim them and then shave. Trimming is very easy, hardly takes more than a few minutes. For a proper shave, if you are doing it daily that is, it would take less than 10 minutes. No cuts or scratches, but you may feel some itching initially.

Cleaning is a bit hard in my case as I had the non-washable one. There are new models which can be washed in running water, very helpful if you want to clean.
