  • HD movies and the age old CRT! No Please! Go for a 22" Full HD monitor to enjoy your movies.
  • Also if you dont have a decent speaker set at least get a entry level 2.1 like the Altec Lansing BXR1121 ~ Rs.950
  • The Gigabyte H61 I recommended has both PS2 mouse and KB ports. So you can use the old KB+Mouse set w/o issues.
  • If budget is extendable do invest in a better motherboard like the Intel DH67BL(B3) since it has newer goodies like USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps ports and will come to good use considering your long upgrade cycle of 6+ years.

Sire you mean the BXR 1221, i presume.

And happy Diwali to you, Sire. A prosperous new year. Cheers!!

Thanks Alpha17 and DarkAngel for replying. Those configuration look good. Some questions I want to ask

I have heard about processor taking more load when gaming on that res. Is corei3 2100 better than core i3 350 in that regard?

Also how much future proof would that gpu be if I do not want to change my monitor for some time? Is it a appreciable difference between 512mb and 1gb on that res?

Is a cpu cooler necessary?

Sorry for all these questions I'm really confused at the moment. Also some retailer close to my home also said that AMD processors aren't that great compared to Intel, is it true??

As for the upgrade cycle, well I've got a laptop in b/w, guess I've have to watch hd movies on that, now I'm looking to build a rig just for gaming.

^^ The Core i3 2100 is the latest iteration of the Sandy-Bridge architecture on the lower end, it is quick powerful and can take down older AMD Deneb's on all counts and consumes lesser power. Here are benches -- AnandTech - Bench - CPU.

For gaming low-end cards don't need more than 1GB V-RAM, infact 512MB is also enough in most cases, as V-RAM has the job of frame buffers and isn't used in anything else, so extra memory is more oft than not wasted as the GPU has not spit out the requisite number of frames.

No need for a CPU cooler, the i3 2100 is a cool piece of Silicon.

Hope these answer your queries, Sire. Cheers!!

Happy Diwali.

What is the difference between BXR1121 and BXR 1121. Just the space right :P

Happy diwali to you too.

i3 350M is a mobile 1st gen. i3 used in laptops. You cant get it for desktops! Last gen. i3 was i3 530(5xx) series. The 2nd gen is much better architecture. So go for it. Also in your budget since you can accommodate a i3 2100 go for it. Dont confuse yourself.

The pricing of GPU is from dvdstoredelhi(TE dealer, Chandigarh based) Rest of the config should be priced similar from SMC International(TE dealer, Delhi based) and Computer Empire, Delhi.

So along with my old CRT friend I'm gonna go with following config.

Processor: Corei3 2100

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2-B3

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 512mb DDR 5

RAM: Corsair 4GB DDR3

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB

PSU: FSP Saga II 500W

Cabinet: Cooler Master Elite 310

Good enough or should I change something still?

I'll watch HD movies on my lap, Gaming is of more Importance :ohyeah:

If possible grab the Intel DH67-BL over this one as the H67 chipset is much better overall from the H61 in my views, rest all fine.

Try to grab the HD 6770, will mean a decent future for gaming, I doubt the HD 6670 will be able to pull most current titles @720p + medium settings.

Hope this helps, Sire. Cheers!!

Not the space. The second digit. :P

Dont know what I was thinking when I wrote that. :ashamed:

@OP - Since you have the budget I would also suggest the Intel H67 mobo since its more future proof considering your long upgrade cycle.

Allright I'll try to stretch my budget for a h67.

Interestingly I stumbled onto the PSU thread yesterday and been wondering since if the PSU I've chose to go with is good enough?
