thinking of just using the same monitor

and dvd drive. and using old harddisk for linux flavor

These are components i want to buy

Asus M5A88-V EVO - am3+ motherboard with ide port

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB WD10EARX SATA Internal Hard Drive

Gskill 4 GB DDR3 1600MHz F3-12800CL9S-4GBSR

Thanks in advance

The reason for not suggesting CM EPP series is that they are poor value for money and there are much better PSU's for that price.

Components Description Price (INR)

Processor Core i5 2320 9300

Motherboard Intel DH67BL(B3) 5100

RAM GSkill 4GB DDRIII F3-12800CL9S-4GBSR 1600

HDD Seagate 1TB 7200.12 2900

GPU MSI Cyclone OC HD6850 1GB GDDR5 PE or Sapphire HD6870 1GB GDDR5 9350/11350

Monitor Benq G2220HD 6900

Cabinet NZXT Gamma 2100

PSU Seasonic S12II 430w 2700

Key Board Logitech MMKB 400

Mouse Gigabyte GM6800 650

ODD Samsung 22X SATA DVD 950

Speakers Altec Lansing 2.1 VS2621 1650

Total 43600-45600

I would suggest this rig in your budget. The BD series has been disappointing. So stick to SB PC in this budget range.

If you want something cheaper you can go for the i3 2100 ~ 5.5k instead of the i5 series.

The Seasonic S12II 430w is an excellent unit is sufficient enough for your needs. But if its not available in your area and if you insist on a higher wattage PSU then I would suggest the Corsair GS600 ~ 4k.

If Cooler Master then the CM GX450 ~ 3k.

I was actually planning on gettin the fx bulldozer processors so need specs according to the bulldozer processor

actually i was thinking of real power pro 460w instead of extreme power series which was about 3200 on bitfang

and the rig i wanted was with a fx bulldozer 6100
so i wanted mobo with am3+
i dont want to oppose you but i ll still go with an AMD processor
and was also thinking of overclocking after say an year

is seagate hdd a green one as i dont want much power usage

there is really no point in going with an FX processor if you are not a video editor or do rendering stuff... Only in these two things FX processors shine... SB quadcore processors thrashes FX processors in almost every benchmark...

^^ If you want to get these components locally [@CTC, Secunderabad], head straight for Shweta Peripherals, I'm not sure about the availability of Seasonic units in and around Hyderabad, so get the COrsair GS 600 OR VX 550 ~ 4600/- [the VX SMPS is better than the GS series but is supposedly have been put out of production so landing one is hard, but do not quote me on this I've only heard this], if you want to buy Cooler Master Real Power Pro series OR FSP SMPSs' then you can go to Arun Computers located further inside CTC [next to CD World, I used to buy all my games from them].

In Cooler Master Real Power Pro seeries you will have the option of 460W ~ 3500/- OR 550W ~ 4400/-, personally get the higher rated SMPS for some future upgrade options.

AMD FX-series processors will take around a month to land in India @stable and decent price range. Also compared to the Intel Sandy-Bridge lineup the performance is very uneven, good in heavily threaded tasks while lighter applications which do not fully utilize all the modules on the Bulldozer architecture suffer [games and day to day tasks], so that is why DarkAngel has reccommende you a Sandy-Bridge set-up and I'll back him up on this.

Some links which will help --

AMD FX-8150 Processor Review - Bulldozer Arrives - Final Thoughts and Conclusions - Legit Reviews / AnandTech - The Bulldozer Review: AMD FX-8150 Tested -- AMD FX-8150 reviewed.

Hope this helps Sire and convinces you on getting a Sandy-Bridge RIG which will help you get more for the cash you spend now compared to Bulldozer which needs to correct a lot of flaws that have been found in it, I'm not writing of AMD as such [I use a Phenom IIx4] but right now Bulldozer ain't Bulldozing anything.

I want to use computer on a long run for atleast 5 years so by that time maybe multicore usage would be more so
re-buying would be a headache as am not much of a shoppin person

so any prices on the graphic cards 6870 and 6850

Not really. Its almost 5 years now since the first Quad core release and still not all programs use a quad efficiently.

Also its not advisable to compromise on the performance now for what might happen after 4 years or might not happen at all. Intel SB is the best bet for your requirements. I would suggest you stick to that. Your call anyways.

Did you read my config suggestion? Prices of HD6850 and HD6870 are mentioned in it :|

Even if multi-core usage picks-up, the current Intel Sandy-Bridge has enough muscle to do most taks, video-encoding is handled by Intel Quick-Sync -- Intel Quick Sync Video - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia / AnandTech - The Sandy Bridge Review: Intel Core i7-2600K, i5-2500K and Core i3-2100 Tested, which beats AMD processors fair and square, on lightly threaded applications Intel aggressively bins core speeds and again pulls ahead of AMD in those tasks.

Also AMD power consumption is also not as good as Intel's leaner, meaner architecture, but in the end it is your choice and I can't say anything else.

The AMD HD 6850 ~ 9800/- AND HD 6870 ~ 11500/-.

Green edition drives generally have penalties on performance, also Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 is a decent balance between power consumption viz. a viz. performance.

Also the Western Digital Gree edition drives keep crashing and have serious stability issues [atleast that is how they have performed for me in the past 2 years]

Hope this helps. Sire.

There is no point in going for bulldozer right now.

So i you can get a AM3+ board and a AMD phenom 2X4 955BE procy which can handle anything for 1.5 yr or less when combined with the products recommended by Darkangel.

During that period AMD piledriver,BD might get matured in performance and also they might be available in HYD,costs might also be reduced or settled.

So at that time if you want to upgrade u can sell your procy and buy the FX or piledriver procy.

Well, if you want BD, go for it. Its your choice, and yours alone. But do bear in mind that SNB is much better and faster.

Also if you plan to use the 17" CRT monitor, a 6850/6870 will be overkill. Settle for the IGP for now, get a GPU when you upgrade your monitor.

I think i'll go with the samsung 22" led lcd which is about 8k or so. and anyways i have a 40" led which i can play on occasionally

your idea is quite good going for a x4 for now and later upgrading

but the price of x4 is almost as same as fx bd so i dont find reason changing but if i can get fxbd 4xxx series at a cheaper price i would go with that as its got much higher base frequency.

another question i had in mind

if i took hd 6870 it needs 2 6pins power supply but cm real pwer psu has only one pin

can i get some adapters to convert 4 pin to 6pin or sata to 6pin??

if yes how much do they cost??

One 4pin to 6pin Pci-e converter comes with hd6xxx series,so it's okay to buy one 6-pin psu.Go for Seasonic S12II 430w or cm real power 460w psu.

@thegatekeeper so does that mean that we would get such adapters outside??if yes what's the price?

and i also need one sata to ide adapter as my dvdrw is an ide which i bought about 6months ago so i dont want to waste that one by just buyin a new one what would be the cost??

hey guys going for a phenom x6 1100t with a am3+ mobo and remaining are same most probably so whats the price of this processor now

^^ Why are you seriously wasting money on a E.o.L system which will in no way help achieve what you want, core to core the Intel Sandy-Bridge i5 2400 demolishes the AMD Thubans -- AnandTech - Bench - CPU.
