I need to send a phone to the States. I need to know about a cheap but safe method of shipment or courier service. Also do i need to fill out any custom forms.

Help from people who have experience in such matter will be appreciated.

Registered post i would say. My family has sent things couple of times through registered post (Not to US but some other country). But that was not phone but clothes / snacks etc.

Not sure about phone sending.

I have checked out Indian Postal Services and they do have very low rates. Plus many people here have used them for sending their GSkill rams to Taiwan. However have no idea whether they offer tracking or insurance.

BTW do SNS offer shipping services from India to US.

You can ask SNS or contact a member on the other forum. I think there is someone on E who does the same thing what KMD used to do here. I don't know who the member is but you can ask that on E.

Else i would still suggest India Post for lower rates and reliability (at least my experience).

SnS charges like a regular courier (Aramex) for sending abroad.

If you need tracking and insurance, you can opt for SpeedPost which provides this on extra payment. Mind you, the cost would increase with insurance.

ICC World has an India to US shipping service, but you need to first send the item to their Mumbai office. I had got the following pricing when I contacted them about a year back.

yes, there is a form (I think its CN 22) in which you need to give details of the item.

Does the value or any information filled in this form have any bearing on the price paid by the receiver.I mean he won't have to pay any duty or something on the phone?
