Hi guys

I know its very odd to post a bike related query on a Tech Forum but
TE is my all in one solution on the net , so asking here.

TE does have many bike lovers also hope they help me out.

Guys i want to replace my rear 90mm zapper with a 120mm new type.

Michelin M45
or
Pirelli [donno the model name]

Please suggest tyres with model name and 120mm wide only.
Some thing which can fit exactly without removing my chain cover which
might interfere with the tyre fitting.

After that change don't you think the non-existent fuel efficiency of the Karizma will go down to a negative complex number?

What are you looking for primarily? Better grip? What will be your riding pattern - dry/wet or all round?
If you are going to ride only on dry tarmac 90% of the time, I would recommend a MRF Zapper 'Q' 100/90. I have not used the Michelin M45, but it might be better than the MRF.

Stick with stock size, going for a 120 section will not give you much benefit, will just give you a cool look thats all.
Looking at the tread pattern, the M45 seems a better all-round kind of tyre compared to the Pirelli SD.

hmm go for the m45... you dont drive much anyways.. but still the m45 is a better all rounder.. and ya stick to the 90mm... 120mm on a karizma aint worth it IMHO..

drive safe

I'd suggest go for the Dunlop 120/80...its costs abt 1400 with the tube...its the same tread the dunlops that used to come with the CBZ.

Its an xcellent tyre and me n my cousin will vouch for it....stay away from zappers...zappers suck....period!

BTW the tyre change wont hurt ur bike's average....have been using it on my cuz's CBZ...

Hmmm I disagree.... the Zappers may not be the best but they are quite decent. Otherwise most of the bikes would not come with Zappers as OEM :P

But yeah, the Dunlops are the best. Sad that they stopped making radials and all. But they are thinking of reopneing the factory.

Anyway, go for the Dunlops or the Michelins.

Well, what I guess KK meant was that if Quad shifted to a 120mm tyre(dunno if he meant ball bearing or sleeve type or 120 or 160 CFM :P ), then his mileage would go down even more.

If you stick to the same tyre size then of course, no problems with fuel efficiency.

BTW Quad, how much mileage do you get?? I get max of 37(only once) but usually 34-35 on my P180DTSi. At least better than my Roadking's 27-29 :P

I want a tyre mainly for better grip and handling.

Since a few days my bike is skidding a bit , i thought that i shud go for a tyre change.

A all rounder tyre wud be prefered as rainy seasons are approaching in a few months.

I dont care about mileage that much , i did not got a zma to worry about petrol.

@chic - who told you i dont drive much.
I drive daily to college on my bike , its just on the meets that i am normally in classes which are at dadar i dont prefer to drive so much due to the traffic jams as i might be late for class and parking issues at dadar near my classes.

Some how i am feeling that Pirelli Sport Demon is better than Michelin M45

Can some one tell me more about what are that figures after 110or120.
the 80 or 90 , 18,17 and whats CTL and 58/62/61/etc.... mean.

well the 120/80 means as follows.. 120 is the width and 80 is the ratio of the ht of the tyre wall to the width(i hope i am rite :D)

for eg 120/80 = a/b

bigger the no for 'a' wider the tyre n vice versa
smaller the no for 'b' lower the profile of the tyre(less ht)

Quady - the MRF Zapper Q has a similar tread pattern when compared to the Pirelli SD. Am running the Zapper Q on my RXZ and it is excellent in dry tarmac and not so good in wet roads, hence am assuming the same would be the case with the SD.

Looking at the M45's tread pattern I guess it will perform better in wet roads.
And please stick with stock size, rubber quality is more important than size/width.

110/90-18M/CTL 58H means
110 - denotes the width or in other words the tyre is 110mm wide
90 - denotes the profile or in other words the tyre's height is 90mm.
18 - indicates dia of the wheel in inches
no idea about rest, the 'H' mean its a H rated tyre, it can safely run upto 210kmph
Speed Category
S 180 km/h (112 mph)
T 190 km/h (118 mph)
U 200 km/h (124 mph)

V 240 km/h (149 mph)
*W 270 km/h (168 mph)

How old is the Zma u got??:)
How many kms on the odo that u need a tyre change already??

Are you changing the front too??:ohyeah:

If not, get the Dunlop 100/90 rear of CBZ!!:cool2:
800odd for tyre and 280-310 for tube, i think!!
But for tube, get MRF tubes- MRF best butyl for tubes, worst compound for tyres!!:cool2:
Donated all MRFs i tried!!:P

Else, get a matched pair of pirelli front and rear!!:D
(eh, sounds like matched sticks of ram, hehehe!!)

Also avoid using tubeless tyres with tube!!
Tubeless have stiffer walls as meant for heavier bikes, so with tubes= lesser flex than std ones= lesser contact patch in lean!!

That pirelli you showed must be good but dunno if its Required!!
Good on roads, definitely not offroad-
Mumbai roads need knobbies during monsoon:rofl: , all badly broken patches!!
Wil wear out sooner than you think, that too centre patch due to lack of twisties in mumbai and i don't think you gonna go out of town for some mean lean!!:cool2:
So after a while, your banking is worse!!:P

AAH!! Michelin M45!!:ohyeah:
U might get a 4.00x18 for the rear with some difficulty but dunno if you can get the 2.75 or 3.00 for the front!!

These tyres are as good as stickies for daily use, come wet, dry, concrete or gravel!!
On unblemished tarmac, its pure sticky on a hot summer day!!

First 2 pairs of M45, 30k pairs imported by single dealer, were tested by my pal on his shogun and me on my ported 135!!
Like i was telling Vignesh abt TVS rear lockups, even on tracklike roads, none with the M45 even on concrete:clap: !!

all my friends bikes- 2 shoguns with one, few yams, my yam- now ex, my shogun and shaolin, all have them.
One 4.00x18 and 3.00x18 in friend's attic for my RD;) !!

Warning: Please do not try this anymore:no: !! Crazy car drivers might try to bump u off due to ego issues:@ - happened to my pal!! He's badly messed up now:( !!

If you have seen the flyover from Mankhurd to Chembur on sion-trombay highway, its almost 90-100 deg angle, maybe 110 too on the way to chembur!!
The apex of that flyover is the bend itself, more like a slightly spread out 'L'!!
So how does two shoguns tailing each other, 100kmph at apex, sound!!:ohyeah:

Seen Karnala, water flows down road at bends during monsoon!!
I managed only 85-90 kmph on slightly ported 135 and 90-95 kmph on almost stock shogun in dry, but sticking to my lane or max mid line!!
How does 80kmph in bends in wet, with few cms of water flowing across the road at bends sound!!:ohyeah:

If you seen these places then cool, else chk them out one day and you shall know what i am implying;) !!

AAH!! Good ol' Days!!:P

Hmmm, just remembered, pal shod pirelli 110/80 on rear of 5spd 135, ported, with expansion chamber!!
Mainly for looks and of the opinion- "Bada hai toh behtar hai":bleh: !!
But stuck too new MRF zapper for front!!

One skid during regular lean, due to heavier mass of tyre and less flex, back to M45, now pair!!
Now desperately hunting for M45, !!

Once earlier ignored my advice on suspension setup and had to rush with pal to take him for first aid and had to ride his mangled bike back to the garage!!

Quaddy, please lemme know if M45s are still available somewhere!!

Mods- please pardon not using edit!!
Tooo long to point this out!!:ashamed:

If you want pure performance from the tire, the Zapper Q 90/90 is enough. In fact, a 90/90 has all the grip you need to ride a ZMA...anything higher just ruins handling as well as mileage. Got myself a Zapper Q 90/90 on Vignesh's recommendation. Can do mindlowing bends notpossible on my earlier tyre. and mileage has gone up lol

PS : was using a MRF Moto C 3x18 before. 90/90 is wider than 3x18, gives a cool look as well as performance.

Dunno much about tyres really but my neighbour's P180 DTSi has a Michelin (I think its the M45 you guys are talking about).

I rode the bike before/after the change, and its definately more stable on gravel/mud i.e. much better grip..

He's complaining of a loss in top speed (but I never went that fast to care :P)
