Was it fair enough what happened with Black?

Hi Guys,

I am a movie freak and specially a huge fan of Big B.

I want some opinion for all you guys out there who watch movies and love them...

Last year, Paheli was selected among top Indian contenders (Black included) for the Indian selection for Oscars. How many of you think that was a correct decision. Paheli could not stand the qualifying round in Oscars and Black without getting selected, got selected by Times Magazine in the top 10 movies out of all movies (any continent and any language) made in 2005.

The reason given against Black was that it was a copy of some Italian movie and in favor of Paheli it was said that it reflected Indian culture!! I just wanted to ask that there is no such rule in Oscars that the movie cant be a copy of any other movie, why select Paheli which still shows Indians still as folky lors who still beleive in ghosts. I know it was just a story and can take any shape. But Black was more than a inspiration!

Till what time we sit and see a powerfully lobbied Shah Rukh Khan and Amol Palekar take all the pride? When will we see a movie which deserves (and could have also won the first Oscar for India) such respect even if it does not have that powerful lobby. Movies which dont have huge star studded cast even dont have a single chance of standing against lobbiests like our selection people. When will this politics will be set aside and some thought for the country and its people will be poured in. Who wouldnt be happy if Black would have won a Oscar?

And what as a movie goer, a person like me and you could do to stop this non sense?
 
Nope..... maybe not Black if it was a copy but definitely Iqbal or something....

100000% not Paheli!!!
 
funny...I kinda liked Paheli ..I mean how often do you see a well executed movie based on an Indian Folk tale?

(not that I didn't like Black, it was awesome, Just wanted to say that Paheli wasn't as trashy as many feel it is)

actually the original short story is quite different from the movie...amol palekar has made a hash out of it :no: ..have read the short stories collection of vijayadan detha...women-centric stories, but a nice read
 
Yaar,

where there is SRK .. there is this politics..

He is desperate to prove himself after the break out wid the chopra camp..

he is also so damn egoisitc that once he created a speacial category in the awards so that he shdnt go empty handed..

the next year , wen he did got the award for best actor.. the 'created' category was absent..

this time round too, 'people' mst hv flexed their muscles to use their contacts .. and Black wasnt sent..

All so sickening..
 
BLACK should have been selected for the oscars ! Maybe its a copy of another movie but watever nobady can match BIG B in the acting department. He did a fantabulous job in BLACK.

And yeah sending paheli for oscars was a big mistake. They could have sent some other movie but paheli did'nt deserved it. Moreover people living in other counbtries who dont know much abt INDIA after watching paheli wud definately think that India is all abt caste, religion and ghosts ! U Know they wud get the wrong idea !!

It is evidently crafted as a folk tale..This is like saying folks thinking about Europe as a land of ogres after watching LOTR...(OK, bad analogy as usual, but you get the idea)
 
Or people watching a hollywood movie and thinking kids in US only think sex and drugs, and they all hate their president.

Really wat i said is true ! Many Times chatting at yahoo with foriegners I was asked that why is INDIA so rigid ! Why there is this taboo abt sex , Do we still believe in caste systems etc etc etc.....!
 
First of all...I dont wanna say Paheli was a bad movie. (Ok types for me) but what I am saying is that was it comparable to Black or even Iqbal for that matter??
