If these are original, which I am willing to believe they are, it's guaranteed that they are stolen. A lot of such theft happens on flights back home from abroad. A lot of unsuspecting people keep their valuables in their check-in luggage which are deftly slipped away. You are not allowed to lock your baggage in international flights (esp to the US).

Recently, my friend had a $1000 handycam stolen that way. And later he heard that some shops were selling handycams in Chennai Ritchie Street for Rs 2500. Where do you think they are getting these from? They are manufacturing the Sennheisers at their home? Even the cost of smuggled products would be more than Rs 290.

People should stop patronizing such sellers and intimate the police. Else, everyone is indirectly promoting theft. We can continue to hanker after such stolen goods which sell for a steal. But a later loss of our own goods in a flight will make everything even again!

It's not the grey market I'm talking about. A grey market is essentially a smuggled goods market. Goods on which applicable duties have been evaded to keep selling prices low.

But what you are seeing here is a stolen goods market. I'm sure you are intelligent enough to know that. Beyond that, to each his own. If you wish to feel proud about buying stolen goods dirt cheap, so be it.

^^ How come you are so sure that he has purchsed only a stolen goods ?
Don't make feel others low because of your assumptions.

Your theary of stealing from flights and selling to shops is not at all agreeable. you mean to say that these theives travel to amarica in flights just to steal?? that too paying for air ticket? Dude, its not some local passenger train.

There is nothing to feel low about. Nobody has committed anything wilfully wrong here. I just highlighted something which may have escaped people's mind, with the hope that they can see it clearer next time onwards.

Traveling to the US to steal? Your gullibility beats everything. Do you believe there exist ports of entry to India -- like Mumbai or Delhi, where international passengers land? I've myself had a mobile stolen there, and just a few months back my friend had a $1000 handycam stolen. How can I say that they got stolen in India and not elsewhere? Well there is no conclusive proof. But there are shops in Ritchie Street (Chennai) which have been reported to sell new Sony handycams for Rs 2500. Draw your own conclusions.

If a Sennheiser sells for Rs 290, which is not even its manufacturing cost, then I leave it up to your own wisdom to decide what is its nature. Even a smuggled Sennheiser cannot sell for that much -- just the transportation cost of it would double of that at the very least, even if you assume that the buying price of it was Rs 0.
