http://jeffareid.net/nfsu2/nfsu2.zip

this version made 2005-04-16

For Windows XP, extract nfsu2.zip to here:

\Documents and Settings\NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\NFS Underground 2

where NAME is your XP account name. Local Settings and Application Data are
hidden folders, so you'll need to change folder options to be able to view
hidden folders.

all 6 online modes are setup and ready to go with these cars:
Circuit - Corolla
Sprint - Corolla
Drag - 240SX
Drift - GTI
Street X - Corolla
URL - Corolla

3 customized "my cars" setup for offline practice
Corolla - circuit, sprint, street x, url
240SX - drag
GTI - drift

all 5 career slots have the following vehicles, each setup in all modes:
Corolla - engine + ecu + weight
Navigator - engine + ecu + weight
240SX - engine + turbo + nos
GTI - engine + ecu + weight
Mustang - engine + ecu + weight

All cars are turbo tuned, which increases power about 3.3%. This is OK
for online use, but wrecord.com no longer allows turbo tuning for their
world records; visit their site to see the current rules. The wide
body kits have been removed, and replaced with level 3 bumpers. Without
the wide body kits, the cars launch a bit better, which could be
an indication of more rear tire grip.

Career mode 100% complete, played on easy, so I could get 300 rep points per
race for all 222 races. All outruns won. Money set back to $1,000,000 just
because it looks nice. I "added" wide body kits, lynx spoiler, trap hood,
and the 3 peformance uniques (as listed above) to each of the career cars.

Setup notes:

Corolla is setup for Outer Ring using only shift kit, flywheel, and clutch,
no 6 speed is installed. Install the 6 speed for most other tracks.
The gears for 6 speed are setup for tight tracks like city hall. URL
has 6 speed installed, street x does also and uses very low gearing.

The 240sx drag setup doesn't use NOS in 1st gear, and NOS duration is
set to 5 (one click left of center) Suspension is set to max height and full
soft. Top speed is highest when height, springs, and shocks are the same
front and rear. Faster setups use a lower 1st gear or use NOS in 1st,
stiffer rear suspension and lower front height, hurting top speed, and
consistency, because game variations in the launch make it difficult
to get a perfect shift into 2nd gear. The car is setup for Bayview with
these gears (in mph): 43, 83.8, 112.6, 141.2, 171.6, 210.9. For South
Runway, use these gears: 44, 86, 119, 148, 175, 213.3.
Driving notes:

Circuit - sprint - url: On some tracks, it's better to slide or bounce
off walls. This includes most circuit, sprint, and airport url tracks.
Sometimes cutting a corner and bouncing off a wall is faster than
smoothly sliding along the fencing on a corner. For outer ring and
bayview url tracks, its best to run clean. Outer ring - use the
stock tranny (no differential or 6 speed). One key corner is the
tight left about 1/4th into the lap. Dropping to 4th gear and keeping
the throttle floored is an easy way to get the right entry speed. Setup
the right turn to place the car close to the far right, then turn in early,
just barely missing the inner wall. Minimum speed can be 191mph or more
if it's done right.

Drag - 240sx setup in nfsu2.zip is good for 21.2 to 21.4 in a quickrace
at Bayview, and quicker online you get the lead (bonus nos). Assuming
perfect shifts, almost all of the variation in the time is due to the
launch in 1st gear. At the launch, try holding rpms at about 8000 rpm.
The gear shifts happen so quickly that it's pretty much a case of memorizing
the timing by doing a bunch of quick race runs at Bayview. To practice drag
racing, just note the speed as the car exits the tunnel (Bayview forward),
then restart, instead of doing full runs. A good quickrace run with this
setup results in about 190mph as the car exits the tunnel. Once you get good
tunnel exit speeds, then do full runs and work on the launch to see how it
affects the runs. When online, if you get the lead, tunnel exit speed will be
194mph (bonus nos), or sometimes more as online mode speed and times seem to
vary. Note that the shift timing varies a bit on different tracks, Bayview is
the slowest, and South Runway is the quickest. On South Runway, make sure not
to blow the engine, or use the taller gears as mentioned above.

Drift - Although a front wheel drive car like the Golf is good for drifting,
it's not very forgiving as lifting off the throttle will cause the car to
turn sideways even more. To learn how to deal with the car, I recommend using
1st gear only (switch to manual shift if you're using automatic), keeping the
throttle floored, then turning the wheel side to side to figure out how the
car responds. I also recommend turning stability on, as this slows down the
rate that the car rotates at, leading to more points in a drift run. Again,
the main thing to get used to is that you need to use or add power to
stop the car from rotating, the opposite of what you would do for a rear
wheel drive car. After you get used to the car, most of the time you'll
be using 2nd gear and sometimes 3rd.

sigh, wanted to participate again this year, but my sem exams are during the finals...so whats the point. :)

Yeah me too, a Evo8, though a Corolla and RX8 maybe a bit faster.

Its upto you, I somehow didn't like the RX8's handling. If the Evo is more comfortable stick with that, its not only about pure speed but control and cornering abilities as well...:)

Oh and by the way, Best of Luck ! And keep us updated on the proceedings ;)

Hi guyz.

Thank u all for the valuable suggestions. I now like corolla.Thank god there are forums so that we can ask questions and get valuable suggestions.Else i'd chosen lancer as my car for the tourney.

Btw i tried a track with different cars.

Dockside.

Lancer got the best lap at 1:40.32

Audi tt got the best lap at 1:41.25

RX 8 got the best lap at 1:37.67

whereas corolla got the best lap at 1:27.73.

I cant choose the first two coz the torque for the cars is limited to 388 Nm.

So guyz could u please try the same track with your tuned cars and tell me wether i m fast or not. i.e. wether do i have chances of winning.

Thnx

mine best is 1:07.xx in the outer ring circuit (mine favorite :) ) with RX8 ...... damn no WCG for me in cochin :( .... previously they announced that it wud be there and i wa planning to participate ....

personal experince...i managed the NFS even this time at wcg...worked with the organisers...and the car that topped out was the corolla...people got the settings of it to get a torque of exact 388...and glided thru..the winner from delhi won all his matches using his corolla by 1 lap...except the finals which was really close with both using corollas

Hmm yeah the Corolla has a nice revvy engine and it picks up well. Handling too is also not bad, but its Evo all the way for me ;)

Nah, no way man, the Corolla owns the Celica any day. I have a Celica in my garage (Guess which one :p) but I never liked it and won't use it also...

Remove the 6 Speed transmission from your Celica and it owns the Corolla. :p Mine has been tuned and does a top speed of over 360 KPH. Handles nicely too. And I just finished tuning my Corolla to see whether it really lives up to all the hype it's getting here, and it doesn't... It was almost as fast as my Celica though. Gave me a time of 1:58.39 in Upper Deck, while the Celica usually gives times close to 1:56.5
