Since my 250GB decided to die last night, I got a Hiren boot CD from one of my friend to try and recover some files of the faulty HDD.
In the process, one of my WD HDD someone went into "Dynamic Disk" status and was marked as invalid under Windows 7. It would get detected in BIOS, but wouldn't mount in the OS.
At first, I gave up hope, thinking it was dead. But reading up online, I found out that hex editing the drive and changing a specific value from 42 to 07 would resolve it. I did that, however, I was only able to recover one of it's partition (I had 2 for it). How do I get back the other partition?
Has anyone ever dealt with this sort of issue before?
The OP's post in this thread was what helped me out (partially): http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-support/3906-dynamic-disk-invalid.html
