Hey,

I purchased a WD 2TB USB 3.0 External HDD yesterday. when i connected it everything worked started copying my Backups on to it..

Today when i woke up & started my computer, It was really slow. took long to detect drives. took longer to show the starting windows screen. & after it started when i logged in I was only able to see my 1TB WD which is USB 2.0 but not the 2TB

When i disconnected it & reconnected again it gave me error USB Device Not Recognized.
So I removed every usb connection on my pc except for the wireless mouse/keyboard.
& then plugged the 2TB Drive back in the same port as before & it detected it.

then I shutdown my computer & restarted it... It was again slow in booting up but this time the HDD was shown in MY Computer.

What is the problem? is the Drive faulty? Transfer speed etc are normal.

I don't have slow boot time when my 1TB HDD is connected.

^ Don't have the USB 3.0 Cable, & my old 1tb WD has the standard Mirco usb connector.

the usb cable seldom turns out to be the culprit, still try to check your drive from your friends cable, if not then RMA the drive :(

Sometimes front USB ports gives me problems , so i connect to the USB in the back . Power Issues i think.

^ Its a External Drive, Power can never be an issue because it has external Power adapter.

BTW i've also tried with the old 1TB power adapter, still didn't work.

I am unable to find a USB 3.0 Data cable, & the one that i did find the guy was asking Rs. 800 for it.

Any ways I do also think the HDD is faulty because when the HDD does get detected Transfer speeds are fine & no data is corrupted, in case it was a bad cable data would definitely get corrupted.

Sent an email to WD Support Still waiting to hear from them. Probably wont get it till monday.

@CA50: The usb 3.0 mini cable is not as same as usb 2.0

@ OP: Are you using WD 2TB USB 2.0 PCIe Card? Are you trying via the front panel header or the rear? Connect it to the rear USB 2.0 port and see if it works.

By the way, I have also WD 2TB USB 3.0 Hard Disk (bought from letsbuy.com) and I got USB 3.0 cable with it.

Did you check all the contents of the box ?

And if your motherboard does not have USB 3.0 and you don't have USB 3.0 PCIe Card, it does NOT matter if you use USB 3.0 cable or your old micro USB cable.

@op the blue cable u have posted is indeed a usb3 superspeed cable

now u only have to sort out a usb3 connector on ur board/computer

^I don't have a USB 3.0 port on my Motherboard & i shouldn't need one either to use the HDD, USB 2.0 ports should work. I would just get lower speed in data transfers.

Anyways I am waiting on WD to reply to my support ticket by monday. if they don't i'll buy the Rosewill case which has USB 2.0 & ESata from the TE Member.

Whats up with WD Support? I contacted them on Saturday got 1 response, I replied to it tell the person its is not working & haven't got any response again!

File rma and talk to them.their e mail system is pathetic.

I also did not get any response on email.

Sent from my Motorola ATRIX™ 4G on AT& T
