Just saw that the price of the WD 500GB USB external drive is reduced to Rs 8,000/-. (unlike the USB + IEEE which is ridiculously priced at 10K :@ but hey...not many people even have firewire.)

At this price, I think it's worth going for this as a readymade externalized solution. If one has to spend around 6.6K for a 500GB SATA/PATA drive and then spend 1.8K for a good quality Transcend casing or Rs 600/- for a plain looking zippy case, it might be worth considering this esp. if you don't want to go through the hassle of installing the drive in the case or worrying about case quality.

Is this the Western Digital My Book Essential Edition??

If so, here is my recommendation for it. Bought one this month, but i got the WD premium edition with USB + eSATA..

Very fast performance and looks cool too.. :)

I believe it has to be the same. I have not checked it though. Did not know that there's an eSATA model out. Might be worth waiting for that model to arrive in India then. But yeah my cousin got one from the U.S. and it rocks.
One issue I'd faced was that the USB detection was a bit of a problem until I installed Win XP SP2 on my cousin's P3 with USB1.1 ports and got him a USB2 to PCI converter card.

The other things I liked about it is are that it feels more like a book and it's well ventilated with slots all around.

looks dam good a buy with tyhe 500gb selling @ 6k infact 5.9 today @ lammy and 2 k for a casing this makes more sense.
