Hi I got a wd640 & formatted it using the xp computer management program, now there is no option to create partition, Even I tried using partition magic but the create partition option is greyed out.

In the computer management program of XP all other drives are showing Layout as Basic but Wd 640 is showing Simple & all other are showing Type as Basic but WD640 is showing Dynamic.

Please help a noob & kindly explain what i did wrong, thanks

Because you already formatted ....

First right click on Parttition delete the partition

Then you can create partition....

Parttiton are creted first and then you have to format but if you format the drive first then you can not create partition in Windows DM..

ya thats bcoz u already formatted it n the whole disk is a sigle drive now..

select n delete the partition..

then next is creat partitions of size u want..

n then format the cr8ed partitions.

oh ok thanks for all your help, will delete vol, create basic & then format, hope i got it right... thanks

You formatted right??
You cant format unless you hav created partitions, in short, only partitions can be formatted nothing else..

So delete the partition you created and then create new partitions..

Edit:-- Oops..had opened the page long time back since then many replies..Stil not deleting mine..:)
