hi, i know it has 5 year warranty. what i want to know is can i rma now or do i have to wait until it 'dies'.

prob is i don't have a hdd large enuf to back up everything.
 
It depends on the availability of replacement drives. Yours is a 640GB, might be hard to get them. Do keep checking them. Its 15 days/2 weeks. Also do mail the WD fellas.
 
#vivek.krishnan , He has already sent the HDD for RMA, jus worried that it takes time.

how long does the wd rma take, on average ? sent hdd on 26th jan, nothing yet.

#PoBoy, Just so u know I RMA'd 2 Seagate HDDs on the same day got 1 within 4 days and the other is not in stock which is why it is being delayed.
 
25 days since I sent the hdd, no replacement yet. All I get is :

> Kindly wait your case has been escalated to the concern department to ship

> the replacement drive.

> The replacement drive should be shipped to you shortly.

26 days after i sent the hdd, wd rma status shows :

Pickup failed No delivery scheduled

...

Our attempt to pick up your defective product failed. We will attempt a second pickup on the next business day in the same time slot.

...

We have not scheduled a delivery of your replacement product.

It is now eight weeks since I returned the hard disk. No replacement sent yet.

Seems a bit strange that " the drive is not in stock in our warehouse " even after eight weeks. WD can just keep on repeating that till the warranty period expires !?

any suggestions ? what do I do ?
 
10 weeks, no replacement ! Anyone RMAed a AAKS 640 in the last few months ?

just received a new 1TB EARX. Can WD send a green hdd as replacement for blue (aaks) ?

No idea about EARX buddy.

But 70 days for a replacement !

That is just too much but they have gone through hell in Thailand.

That could have affected the whole RMA process OR is this the norm for WD ?
