So i need to buy a new dedi hdd for OS and games.
Thing is i m a Seagate fanboy and have never owned any other drive.
So i need to know if Caviar Green is worth a buy.
I hear these drives are eco friendly, but has WD compromised on performance to save on power ????
I dont care bout the eco friendly part in terms of a drive. Since the other components are hardcore power suckers :p
So is this venture in new territory worth the money or should i still stick around with Barracudas !!
Please temme fast.
M goin by 6:00 pm to buy the drive.

I recently bought a Western Digital Caviar green 1TB upon advice from all. Still in bubblewrap, not put in use yet.

Dunno abt a seagate but am using the WD Green 1TB for the past two months and no complaints yet! It runs quite and is pretty fast too! :)

The green drive does save a little power, but is a lot slower than its Blue/Black counterparts.

I have been using a WD Blue for some time now. No complaints from it.

power saving is perception, bench mark shows Seagate 12 gen consumes less power.

Seagate one is 2 plater , and hence it doesnt need much power,
speed will also be great as platters are denser.

1 month back i had to make a call on Seagate 12 gen or WD green for my 2nd drive, i went with segate , fast ( thou it was never a criteria), cool , and energy efficient

the power consumption difference between seagate and WD green is about 2.5-3W but the performance of Seagate is much much better....it's priced at less than 4k...the 1TB Barracuda 7200.12

I have used 2 WD 500 gb greens and the performance is very slow. I returned them both. Go for the 7200.12s.

NVM got the caviar now :p
I ll post my experience here

performance wise Barracuda....low risk of crash wd green ...

since it for dumping purpose wd will be good i think...

will my psu handle the power using a local 450w psu...
