The issue here is that the 1tb external hard disk gets detected, but tells that it has to be formatted :(
I have lots of personal pictures, and videos, rare blu ray rips, and all in it.

I went disk mangement, and saw that it shows that partition as RAW.

One more thing i just noticed, when i give safely remove,it correctly says "safely remove Mybook t110".

I have tried different cables, different places as source of power.

This actually happened out of the blue, when i was trying to transfer from one hardisk to my 1tb external harddisk, the process just never started(the copying part)..
It just kept on calculating(I think you know what it means here i.e the gbs, minutes needed).

Any way i got fed up of this(it took nearly 1 min for that),and gave cancel and removed it.

Ever since the above problem exists,IF anyone could help me out on this,it would be great,i have nearly 440gb of personal data in it :(.

you should be able to get your data back.Use recovery softwares like Ontrack EasyRecoveryâ„¢ Professional. Even if the data is RAW you can get your data back provided the drive is being detected.Hunt for the above mentioned software and you are good to go.

Hope it helps.

thanks, actually i have not formatted it as of yet.
Should i format then go for Ontrack EasyRecoveryâ„¢ Professional or without formatting..
Please guide me,the data in it is very important.

One more thing,my HDD is only 500gb out of which only 100gb is free,so even if i recover, where will the data go?,my hdd will be filled to the brim, and perhaps i might encounter some error?

EDIT:
i also noticed that Ontrack EasyRecoveryâ„¢ Professional is not properly supported for windows 7.

do not format your harddisk ie the 1tb one.very important again do not format it.

get another disk of say 1tb one or borrow from some one and then transfer all your data from your problematic 1tb one.once you have got your data back safely onto another harddisk then format your problematic 1tb one. Then you can transfer the data from the borrowed harddisk onto the formatted 1tb one. Then you can return the borrowed harddisk.

hope it helps.

ah man did not see your edit.donno whether ontrack works with windows 7.I actually did it with windows xp.

incase it does not support windows 7 why dont u get a windows xp system and do it or downgrade it to windows xp and get the recovery done and then reinstall windows 7 or install windows xp on some other partition.

incase you cannot do all these maybe some other members can suggest some other software which works with windows 7.

For me it worked on windows xp even when the drive was showing as RAW.I got all the data back.It might take some time like 7 to 8 hours but at the end of the day i got my data back. That is the reason I suggested ontrack. There are loads of other softwares but i suggested which worked for me.

i downloanded the *ahem version* :P

l am installing it now,and checking it for consistency,I dont know anyone who has a 1tb hard disk which i can borrow and use,i'll just have to wait and enquire. :ashamed:

guys from chennai help him out.

hope this helps.

Ontrack Easy Recovery is same, Its the full name of the software... Run Easy Recovery after booting from the CD so that Win7 doesn't come into picture...

You should try to borrow HDD from some folks locally as suggested above...

the best thing u have to do now is listen to me

1. Do not format

2. Use Live Disk and boot ( preferably something like sysinternals 2005 Live Disk)

3. Just do the chkdsk / x /f /r (1tb dive)

4. It will do the 5 stage cleansing, belive me all will be fine after this.

5. dont forget to to thank me if this works.

Thanks and Regards
