Hi all..

One of the WD Mybooks i got has developed few issues.

Its extremely slow in access. If and when i open a folder the thumbnail refresh takes few minutes. :S.
So i used a file recovery software to copy my contents. and it shows physical media errors in very few sectors.

Is this also a bad sector case?. I thght mybooks were better. I bought this HDD from another person.
so how do i do a rma in this case?. My internal HDD was given to my dealer. but since this hdd was not bought from here. how to go about it?.

and will WD be satisfied with my explanation of stuff?..

Any help appreciated

This time i was able to salvage almost ALL of the DATA. so not slinging mud at WD.:(.

Thanks
m-J

This one is also 1 TB

Enter the serial number of the WD drive in this link, verify the warranty and proceed.

State the reason as bad sectors. Rest assured, you will NOT get the same drive back. There has never been an instance before, when the same drive has been sent back to the consumer.

WD said:
If you are returning a FireWire, USB, or Combo drive, please return

the drive in a plastic casing along with the power adapter and cord.

Keep all other cables, software, and manuals. In addition, please

write EXT RMA and include the RMA number.

WD will generate a label with a bar code with your serial number. Take a print of that, stick it outside the consignment along with your registered address and WD's address to whom the drive has to be sent to (generated by WD itself), mention the RMA number outside the consignment, send it to WD or have it collected from your place (if WD has the service at your place i.e.), keep your fingers crossed and expect WD to process the RMA soon.

God i am in a crisis.

I just ran the WD diagnostic tools. On startup i had 3 mybooks connected. Its shows SMART status fail for one of the HDD. I thght its ok as one is faulty.

but its shown for another 1 TB. thats is full. the one with pblm shows up as fine...

hmm.. running the quick test ON THE DISK WHICH I HAD ISSUE shows physical media error and the test stopped.

status code 07 Failed read test element

hmm.. running the quick test ON THE DISK WHICH I HAD NO ISSUE AND SMART FAILED shows status code 04 unknown failed test element

(In smart report, the reallocated sector count is failed in this case)

So HDD was delivered to them last sat... not updated in system... god know when that will happen.

Please call up the helpline and keep track of your rma status.

I have heard that they are taking a bit too long to provide replacements nowadays.

called them up..

they received my HDD. they say one will be dispatched next week.

*fingers crossed*

well... the HDD i gave to my dealer is replaced..1 TB green

and they got it last 30th... guess getting discs from dealer is still the best way in India..
