i picked up the wd passport elite 320gb external portable hd for rs. 4300. unlike the "essential" which comes with a 3yr warranty, this is the "elite" which comes with a 5yr warranty. most shops in np were quoting prices similar to this for the "essential" variant.

I am also looking for an ext. HDD. First I was looking for seagate freeagent of course bcoz of its 5yr warranty period but since this also provides same warranty, I will check this one as well.

It will be great if you can mention the prices of other capacities and other brand if you have checked them when you bought this piece.

well.. i went to np to get some printing done and carried some cash to get an ext. hd for my hd content. i asked around in a few shops. most had seagates and maxtors. infact, i got a quote of 3650 for a maxtor 320gb at CE. after visiting a few shops, i came home and called a friend who knew some dealer. the dealer gave her a quote of 4300 and told her that it had a 5yr warranty. i wasnt sure, so i asked if it was the elite and it turned out to be that only. he delivered it too.
