a few 500gigs in raid 0 can compete it, thats what some users on most forums have reported to it.

but definitely, this is out of box solution and in single drive, plus there's no risk to data unlike raid 0 setup.

It'll take only 1 disk failure for ur data to go poof, whether it's RAID 0 or 1 single WD.

why is that everybody always talks of throughput only?

i think Velociraptor will make a great OS drive due to the very low seek times. and no 500gigs in RAID-0 (or whatever) can match that.

Velociraptor should clearly surpass 15K rpm SAS drives also for deskop usage as the firmware is optimised for desktop applications.

It will obviously and there're peeps who invest in 2 or 3 of 'em in RAID 0;

But then who'd want such extreme high-end performances is left to the discretion of the buyer!!!
