I have problem..... in one user account of my comp, if I save a page from IE or Firefox, it is saved as gibberish but in another user account, it is saved properly.... otherwise gibberish is saved as a notepad file

please help

I have tried the same page(rediff homepage) and it saves as gibberish in a notepad file in one user account and properly as a HTML gfile in another user account...

Please help guys!!!

I have tried reinstalling FF too...

Ok, I was chatting with QF and he set me on the right track.

The problem was all HTML files saved previously were being opened with Notepad. Notepad became the default application to open HTM and HTML files.

I just went to properties --> open with and changed it to FF.

Problem solved.

Mods can close this thread ..... :P

yeah..... I tried that. I also tried copy pasting the gibberish in notepad into Word and then changing the font.

The gbberish is in English. Not the Wingdings or webdings font thingy. :P

The thing was the page was getting saved as HTML file itself.

But somehow the default app to open HTML files had got changed to Notepad instead of IE or FF,

maybe ur saving it as .html.txt or so on .try using "file.html" in the save as dialog. And if theres something wrong with the default application used to open a file, go to windows explorer ->tools->folder options->file types and find html ,htm change it to ur browser's.

you might also want to watch out for redolf
HTML.Redlof.A is a polymorphic, encrypted, Visual Basic Script virus that infects .html, .htm, .asp, .php, .jsp, and .vbs files on all drives. Depending on the location of the Windows System folder, the virus copies itself to either %windir%\System\Kernel.dll or %windir%\System\Kernel32.dll. It changes the default association for .dll files.

this may have effected ur html saving abilities in some way . moreover do uahve rights for saving in that folder with ur login? Also- some sites like sun ,etc dont let u save their html pages ,they tweaked in such a way ; )

Thanks Bosky :)

And well, it was not a problem with the web page. It saved in one user account perfectly.

Anyway the problem is solved now. Even before anyone had read the thread :P
