Websites aint opening

TheMask

Explorer
SOme weird problem i have here.. i didnt have net for 3 days and today it was restored.. and when it was done, Yahoo and MSN Messenger wont log on.. then Firefox wudnt log me into Yahoo Mail.. same with IE.. reset the cookies/cleared the cache n all.. even restarted the system.. now Yahoo mail works in both FF and IE now.. TE opens too.. but strangely most of the other sites including Rediff, Firing Squad, Image Shack dont open at all..

I thot it must be the firewall or something, but strangely enough, i dont have the firewall running at all.. just to be sure restarted the system a couple of times too.. what happens is when i enter an address in the address bar and press enter, the page keeps on 'loading' forever with no (download) activity at all..

I am not that much of a software guy, so i am stumped.. is a OS reinstall the only solution (thats the only thing i cud think of now..)

Also, once a few pages that do open, they dont completely open too.. i mean, like this thread for instance.. its open but the 'loading' activity doesnt end.. and it takes a long time to completely 'open' the page too..

any help is appreciated :)

It seems to be some sort of DNS problem at u'r ISP's end. Ask your ISP, to provide alternative DNS addresses. For the meanwhile, you can try using a proxy server by entering some proxy server's address in your IE/FF Internet Settings (free public proxy server addresses can found using google search)

The first thing that comes to mind on top of my head is DNS name resolution.

The sites which you arent able to upon, can you ping them? What result do you get?Post it here. Also are any DNS servers statically configured or are they assigned through DHCP?

You can find the latter info by checking the NIC TCP/IP properties.

yes, its most certainly a DNS resolve issue @ ur ISP..

i think these issues get rectified pretty quickly, though u can ask ur cable operator about it and get an alternative dns address..

As for getting alternate DNS server addresses you can in the meantime try 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2 which are the open relay DNS servers which can be freely used for the public for testing.

The entire 4.2.2.x series is the open relay DNS addresses.Just see whether entering these instead of the ISP's DNS servers resolves the problem.
