Weird issue, laptop disconnects from internet when nexus 7 connects

My laptop and nexus 7 both are connected to internet using a common router. Now I was downloading something using IDM and as soon as I wake my nexus 7 and start using something which accesses internet, it disconnects on my laptop. My IDM download also paused and it started showing 0 bytes/sec.
As soon as I shut down nexus 7 (locked it), internet started to work on Laptop again.

The other day I was on a skype call on my iPhone and I causally picked up my nexus 7 to surf internet and immediately my skype call got disconnected and showed no connectivity or something.

Anyone knows what the problem is ?

I had readup somewhere about an app which would essentially act as a kill switch for all wifi connected devices. Check if you have any unwanted apps on the nexus.

@vivek.krishnan

Any particular app you have read about ?
Yes i will uninstall all useless apps for sure. Also it doesn't really disconnect per se but you just cannot access any website for that time. Downloads will pause and trying to access any website will give you the Page not found or similar issue.

Does the router reboot when you connect the nexus 7 ??

Try setting WPA2 encryption to TKIP instead of AES.

No, router keeps working fine. Just that internet is sort of inaccessible on laptop. There is no yellow exclamation or triangle as well, it just doesn't open any page or download is paused (if any).[DOUBLEPOST=1403600622][/DOUBLEPOST]
The app is wifikill. The phone has to be rooted for that to be installed.

My Nexus 7 is not rooted and I never installed anything called WifiKill.

On the system you can go to the command prompt: and type..ipconfig.

Not sure, how to do it on the mobile. Each IP should be unique. Else pull up the router page, and see what IPs are being assigned.

Speed decreases, really ??
I had this problem that the router rebooted every minute when my Android phone was connected. Changing to TKIP from AES solved the issue.

What router was it BTW?

As for TKIP vs AES, TKIP using the CPU to do the encryption, while AES uses hardware encoder/decoder for same. That causes the slowdown. Not noticable unless you are transferring files on LAN.

Router would usually show a list of devices connected to it, it seems like an ip conflict issue. Check router gui for list of devices connected and corresponding IPs if available. If not, see if you can access router page while the nexus is connected to the network, if you cant, you should set a static IP for your laptop and see if the problem persists.

Ok i shall check in evening and see what IPs are assigned. Router is some pretty old TP Link, bought back in 2009. Pretty basic router.

Though if there was an IP conflict his computer LAN would tell him. I guess the DHCP server is causing a lock.
