Weird issue with Windows 7 - When resuming from hibernation, system shuts down

I am facing this weird issue on my work laptop which has windows 7. I usually avoid shutting down and always do hibernation. But since last couple of days I am facing a problem. The OS hibernates fine (I think) but when i restart, it goes to "Resuming Windows" and then goes to "Shutting Down" and it shuts down and then restarts normally (without resuming).
I can recreate this issue at will so it is not one off case. Any idea what may be the problem ?

Your hibernate.sys file is corrupted.
First disable hibernation, then delete the file. Shutdown the system.

Power on again and enable hibernation. Test and it should work.
