Hi all,

I dont have any kind of broadband/landline phone/internet connection in my area hence i connect using Airtel GPRS from Nokia E51 phone. Since the time i am back from my leh trip whenever i connect my phone to surf the net it abrubtly restarts... thats one problem.

Secondly IF I RESET PC OR WINDOWS SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT PROPER PROCEDURE I cant connect to the net. The phone modem PC Suite says "connected" but i cant surf the net! What could be the issue here?

I have tried re-installing PC Suite, changing USB ports, restarting phone multiple times. Only solution left is re-installing XP! Believe it or not i've been home since 3 days and i have already installed XP five times :@

Please help!!!

TIA

Which service do u use, NOP or Mobile Office?

Can u check using another sim preferably of another company like Vodafone, BSNL and check if the same thing happens there also.
If the same thing happens then maybe you have to do a hard reset or a firmware upgrade.

Why dont u try using Opera Mini or Opera mobile or UCWEB browser to browse the net and see if the phone restarts.

nop is used for surfing net on mobile also charges are less for it...MO is used to connect internet to comp..which are u using

 I face the same problem myself. I know the possible solution but unfortunately I cant try it.

Upgrade your firmware from 100.34.20 to 200.34.20. You can press *#0000# to check your firmware version

Download and install the latest nokia software updater from here Nokia Europe - Device software update - Support and get going

You will need a constant internet connection so dont think of using the GPRS for it. It will download a 73MB file and later boot your phone while upgrading. Even during that time it needs to be connected to the net.

^ The phone also restarts automatically! I took it along to the high cold hils where temps were below zero sometimes... do you think it has damaged the battery or something? Up there i used to get a standby time of one day on full charged battery lol!

Hmm.. then probably something wrong with it. That standby time is very low.

I'll tell you the problems I am facing, and that others have reported cured after a firmware upgrade. It restarts on its own while connected to the net. If the PC goes into standby then it either wont connect or no data transfer. And similar problems.

^ Same thing happens with me. one day backtime was in cold hills etc not here in the city.. i am wondering it might've damaged the battery or something might have gone wromng with software/firmware.... nonetheless i will upgrade firmware tomorrow from a friend's place.

many thanks :-)

Sometimes in acute cold phone refused to access memory card. My sony cyber shot digicam + camcorder went kaput!! Extreme cold = dangerous for these items....

From where did you get this info?

I have updated my phone using the GPRS connection from that phone itself.
After the firmware file is downloaded, the need for Internet ceases. The NSU then flashes the phone. No need for the internet connection during this process.
@ROCKFELLA

Update your phone to the latest firmware version from somewhere.

Norton Ghost 12 and the C drive of the phone! Are you sure?? Or is it the C drive of you computer's Hard Disk. Check once again.

To backup the C drive (Phone Memory) of your phone, open the "Memory" app from the Tools menu, and from the Options, choose Backup Phone Memory. This will create a backup on the memory card.

Or use Nokia Content Copier from the PC Suite to backup the phone.

The reason I cant do it, is because after downloading the file it reboots the phone and NSU flashes the warning that internet connection is lost so update cannot continue.

So this 'info' is first hand experience for me. I am glad to hear it worked for you. :hap2:

Check this:

My phone battery getting charged still i get this message!

BTW Are you guys sure i will be able to update firmware with GPRS connection, i get around 20+ KB/ps speed and can wait for 1-2 hours... i tried updating one, 72MB was downloaded in like 50mins or so..
What i wanna know is can i update from GPRS and whats this weird message of bettery being insufficient? :S
TIA again.

Yeah I get around 20KBps too. Try it out, it might work for you.

Well you need to disconnect the charger before starting off. Otherwise it will keep flashing this message. Just charge to max and go ahead with it.
